Black Crypt
"Black Crypt for the PC"
Petition
Though this game is now over 10 years
old, there are still fans singing praises about it.
Though Raven kept on for years to flash the possibility
of a PC port again and again (Black Crypt was released
for the Amiga in 1992), nothing came out of it this
far. So this Xmas we start a petition with the goal
that (at latest) next Xmas we can enjoy this awesome
game on today's computers.
Following is the complete text of the
petition. Please support the community by signing it
on PetitionOnline.com.
For information on Black Crypt and to download the 2-level
demo of the PC port completed in 1998 by Raven Software
programmer Rick Johnson, see our
Black Crypt section.
late 1998, Raven Software programmer Rick Johnson released
a 2-level demo of the PC port of the Amiga classic Black
Crypt (released by Raven Software in 1992). At that
time, statements were made that the whole game with
its 30+ dungeon levels will be ported over to the PC
and released to the fans as a Xmas present for 1998.
Now, approaching Xmas 2002, nothing has changed... as
far as our several inquiries at Raven Software over
the course of the last 2 years showed, nothing has been
done on this project any more.
Interestingly,
on July 23, 2002, at a public chat celebrating the newly
released Soldier of Fortune II, Rick Johnson made following
statement:
"I've kinda
started to think about re-porting black crypt over to
a GL environment - who knows, maybe I'll finish this
one and build in a level editor as well."
This encouraged
many Raven fans, who started to hope again... until
November 2002, when following official statement was
released by Raven Software to the fan community:
"[Black Crypt]
was a side project one of our programmers worked on
during a vacation. Unfortunately, he hasn't had any
free time to work on it for almost three years. Given
the fact that he's the lead programmer of Quake IV,
I doubt he'll have any free time anytime soon, either."
After 4 years
of to and fro, now the community stands up and asks
for what has been promised. We sign this petition in
the expectation that Raven Software will release Black
Crypt in its entirety as a PC port, complete with all
levels, at latest by Xmas 2003 (if sooner, even better),
as a free download - as was promised 4 years ago.
