Soldier of Fortune was the first real-world shooter ever produced by Raven. Specially for this project, Raven hired a retired mercenary, John Mullins, as consultant. He's also the character you're playing in the game, taking a world tour in pursuit of a terrorist organization.
Soldier of Fortune was the first game to use the GHOUL system with 26 gore zones on every opponent's body. It was also one of the first 3D shooters featuring hardware acceleration only (no software mode), thus allowing for more special effects than before.
