Star Wars Battlefront

Let me Begin by clarifying the following, my review shows the perspective of a gamer who wants what he paid for and more. It is concentrated at the PC version. It doesn’t use fancy talk or a lot of negative talk. I will try to be as sincere, as clear, and as realistic as I can be. I will also compare the game to other games like Jedi Knight Series games and SWGBCC Okay the first thing I noticed when I got the game was that I had to buy a new graphic card because the game is so specific about graphic cards, considering I bought my computer with a decent card in March 2004! So, before continuing reading this review or right after you read it, be sure to check this Supported Video Card List which will take you to the Graphic card list to see if your graphic card appears there, if not, check the list of non supported graphic cards . If it appears there or doesn’t appear in the supported list, be prepared to buy a new graphic card of $200 USA Dollars! So after you passed through that test and at least remember to check the other system requirements when you buy the game or go to this System Requirements , the rest is easier. Well the first impression I had after reading the manual and entering the game (after getting my new graphic card Cool ) was that a classic song started, I was asked to make o profile on both Online and Offline. The people that support the Multiplayer part of the game are Gamespy and LucasArts and let me just tell you that the Jedi Academy MP server list in-game is golden compared to the new and unorganized MP list of games, because it keep moving around while it loads 1 billion servers. And you CAN’T put favorites, levels, or no full or empty servers on list Sad plus, the server information isn’t so exact.

Character Movement

Next, the character movement is pretty similar to the Jedi Academy character movement. Also, you cannot use a lightsaber in this game. Except for the AI units, which are called Heroes and can use lightsabers to make you Bantha Fodo:P Also, they are quite indestructible and have a saber that can deflect AT-AT shots LOL!. So, you might just don’t want to fight them but run away or throw a thermal detonator to knock them and give you some time. Yet an idea occurred to me, you know how to crush the people in multiplayer on Jedi Academy with vehicles right? Well I tried it here and it worked! I killed the Jedi and can also kill other people or ram into them and knock them out or crush them or throw them overboard Twisted Evil

Imperial Scout, one of the classes of Soldiers you can use. Behind are some classical stormtroopers. In Battlefront you can be from a Tie-pilot, to a Rebel soldier, and even to a Droideka!

Single Player

Well to continue, in Single Player, which is divided in to four different types of games, is very fun but sadly, very short. The planets where you fight are the same for most of Single Player and Multiplayer, what I mean is that the planets where Single Player is developed are the same where Multiplayer is developed. So there are no special levels for Single Player or Multiplayer. The main battlefront planets are Hoth, Bespin, Tatooine, Endor, Naboo, Geonosis, Yavin IV, and from Episode III Ren Var and Kashyyyk. Now some of these planets have multiple battlefronts, usually one is vehicle warfare, and the other one is a more hand to hand fight.

The four Single Player game types are Galactic Civil War, Clone Campaigns, Galactic Conquest, and Instant Action. The first one Galactic Civil War is were you are the rebels, and fight in each planet, move to the next following a path “parallel” to the one you see in the movies, Clone Campaigns is the same thing as Galactic Civil War but you fight with clones and follow the storyline of the first three Episodes. Now, Galactic Conquest, gives the real action in the game, the tactical fun Smile Where once you enter this section there are many battles that straightly go to the real movies and are divided so you play both sides. The first four are from Episodes IV to VI where three of them have the movie name and the fourth is what you don’t see in the movies. The other four relate to Episodes I to III and yes the three movie tittles appear, meaning you can play the Revenge of the Sith movie battles in chronological order! Now how you play this, is that you start by having your home planet, example Hoth, and maybe you have other planets or half of them (As I mentioned above, some planets have 2 battlefronts) then you chose an enemy planet to attack, and then chose a planet tactic, each of the planets you have completely have a special tactic ability. For example Bespin has Sabotage which means it will sabotage the enemies vehicles in the next battle, or Tatoonine which has Hero which means you will get a Jedi to fight in the next battle, or Accuracy, extra reinforcements, and Extra Bacta tanks (like in Jedi Academy those little containers). Then if you win, the enemy loses that planet and his tactic and you gain it, then you chose a planet to attack again, if you lose, then the enemies chooses a planet to attack and take over. And so on until you own all the planets. Now each time you get four victories, don’t have to be in a row, you have a planetary bonus which means that the next planet you attack will automatically be destroyed! And win it. Except that you lose the planet’s tactic. Now finally, Instant Action is that you choose a planet, a difficulty Heroes yes or no and Choose Battlefronts to fight.

Starwars Battlefront Single Player Menu

Muliplayer

It is just like Instant Action but with many people and bots up to 50 people Smile

Final Conclusion

Finally I think it is like a super developed Jedi Academy Siege mixed with starwars SWGBCC. I still think it was not completed as Special features told in manual are not in the game and when you choose a map you can see an example and some maps show vehicles they don’t have but o well it’s a Starwars game and the idea and engine is very good. I really hope mappers on a close future are able to play with this engine and make the real Starwars Battlefront.
