Labyrinth - A Halloween Special Jedi Outcast Map 5:25 by Col.J.P.

The Labyrinth is a large maze where players must find the best way to navigate their way around and defeat their opponents. Is it best to run along the tops of walls in plain sight, or inside the labyrinth to avoid detection until the time is right? In the center of the Labyrinth is a tower which can be entered to give players access to several sniper spots, but beware...whilst they give you a good view of the maze below, can be easily spotted. There are several small dueling areas, but almost the entire map is good for wall walks and fast, furious saber fights.

This map has many hidden features so there is always more to find. Oh and did I mention that it is haunted?

Dash Rendar Model for JK II2:39 by Col.J.P.

A model I've heard much about, and now it's out! Compared to what he should look like, I'd say the model is spot on. The mesh is quite good, though it deforms a bit weirdly during moves. The amazing skin was made by KMan. Great team behind this model- Sniper Wolf.

UT November for SoF II2:19 by Col.J.P.

A tribute to an Unreal Tournament map. It is a very close and nicely done replica. This was originally a CTF map, but this map supports a number of game types. It is a large map, good for 16+ players. The map is made up of 2 sides which are different. They are seperated by a main room with a sub in it. This is a map that test skill and team work.

It feels so different from UT due to the weapons. But it is nicely done by MidKnight.

ErM Hangar FFA map for JK II2:14 by Col.J.P.

This map is of an Imperial base with some mining facility adjoined. Medium sized map with a cool design. The hangar is the main part of the map with walkways going around the top and an opening to some mining area below (There is an invisible floor that prevents you from going down to the mining area.. unsure if it's intentional or a bug). The doors at the back don't seem to open either.
It was made by Jason "Jed <4SakeN>".

Cantina Cloud Cartography Pack for Jedi Outcast4:40 by Col.J.P.

The Cantina Cloud Cartography Pack can only be considered excellent. This Map Pack contains 7 different maps in different game modes:

-Inexistence (CTF, CTY), the best one!
-Evening Glow (Duel)
-Gaspoet (Duel)
-River of Blood (FFA), very good too!
-Sanctuary (FFA)
-Return to Mt. Kurek (FFA, Duel)
-Matrix Lobby (FFA)

"Some really amazing work, great attention to detail and ofcourse, cool gameplay. Inexistence is set out in space and has an industrial feeling to it. Evening Glow has a Bespin theme and some nice lighting/ambience. Gaspoet is more of a city side map with trees and plants and walkways.
River of Blood is one of the best, a broken down building with all kind of debris around, and a lot of breakables too.
Sanctuary is equally good, it's mostly inside a 2 level building and has a really creepy feel to it, really nice!
Kurek seems more like a fast paced map with jump pads, teleporters, lava and more. Matrix Lobby is ofcourse the infamous scene in The Matrix where Neo fights the bad guys, don't be suprised if things get messy..."

You must have this map pack, just can´t miss it!

Marko´s SoF II maps updated3:03 by Col.J.P.

Marko, one of the authors of Uber and Panzer Packs, and a lot of others excellent maps for Soldier of Fortune II, just updated and adapted some of his own maps to sniping. Do you remember MacDonalds?

"Just a little note to say I've updated 2 of my maps for sniper servers and chnaged their layout quite a bit. These maps are already on the RTW server rotation and might be on other sniper servers too.
Here's the links to the updated files:

- Downtown update.

Dark Forces mod updates2:24 by Col.J.P.

"Well, it's all systems go as we hurry to finish up the demo and try to get it out as soon as we can. I can't really give you a fixed release date at this stage because, no doubt, it will change. But, rest assured it is coming and if any of the recent builds of the demo are anything to go by, then we have a highly polished product on our hands. Things really are coming together now. It really is just a case of finishing some skins and textures, sound work and a few scripts then we just have to balance the game difficulties.

I think most sections have had an update apart from the FAQ and you can see a load of new screenshots about the place. In the levels screenshots section you can find some new pictures of Secret Base. The thumbnails don't look much, but open them up and you'll see the amount of detail and accuracy on the shots. But, the screens really don't do the level justice. Also, there are a couple of early shots of Ice Station Beta in there too. If you head over to the models screenshots section you can find a few new weapon model screenshots and a picture of the Death Star hologram. In the misc screenshot section you can find a picture of the new Datapad or Personal Data Assistant (As it was known in the original game).

But, where I've really been putting time into the update is for the actual team. We believe that any mod team should keep a very close relationship with its followers. That is what we try our best to do here. Anyway, you may have heard of a system called a ".plan tracker". Game companies use .plan trackers a lot and the developers update their .plans regularly with what they've been upto. So, I managed to find a script that we can use to do that here, but for the team. Every member of the team has an account and you can expect them to be updating their .plans regularly now and keep a close eye on what everyone is upto. On the right hand menu you'll see a link to this .plan tracker and the latest updates to it. You can find links to individual .plans on the team page. I hope this helps the fans out there to keep up to date with what's going on in the mod!

Also, this week we have our first download on the downloads page. It's a desktop wallpaper that MilesTeg made up of the Dark Forces logo that we have re-created for the mod. It's available in all major screen resolutions, so enjoy!"

Go take a look at the Dark Forces: a mod for Jedi Knight II website.

Clan Tools version 1.5 released1:51 by Col.J.P.

In this release, IRC Score enters the second round: with an all-new profile system which allows a previously unknown level of customization for each game and MOD, IRC interface fixes and a lot of rewritten, restructured, and optimized code.

NTP Alarm has learned how to kill it's operating system! In clear words, that means, you can now configure it to either power off, shut down, reboot your computer or log out from your user account when an alarm is triggered. It now is also capable of monitoring your e-mail account and notifying you when you received a new e-mail. Additionally, some annoying memory leaks have been closed, and the servers.ini updated with more sources to update your system time.

The Clan Tools Integrator has just been fixed up on the user interface side, which could have caused some problems on certain Windows configurations.

Unfortunately, the Clan Manager system has not been improved for this release. The whole project has just grown too big to take care of all components in a reasonable ammount of time. If you want to help in any way (programming, creating a reasonable documentation and help for newbies, whatever...) feel free to leave messages in the Forum or send an e-mail to Sonic.

You can get it at VWare.

Galactic Warfare JK II mod updates1:40 by Col.J.P.

Our weapon modeler /skinner has skinned the medic,. The sniper skin is almost done, and the med pack is being worked on.

As for code, I finished the invisibility for the spy, but then realized that it would probably be better if I made a skin change, so that function will be done in a day or two, and the rest of the code, (grapple, real jetpack, air strike) is in progress.

As for maps, I have 4 large CTF maps, which I downloaded. If anyone is willing to make a map for Galactic Warfare, (you can also release it for Jedi Outcast); please contact me frown_face@hotmail.com.

If you want to know how the sound goes, I don’t know what background music will go into it, therefore I will be adding an mp3 player into the interface, sometime soon. As for the weapon sounds, and player sounds, there still is a lot of work to be done. So if anyone is willing to be a “sound guy”,

As far as the team goes, we got two more beta testers, and our concept and GFX artist Avi, have done some really nice work. Were looking for a skinner, if anyone is interested email me.

If your interested head on over to Star Wars: Galactic Warfare.

Abbey map for SoF II10:43 by Col.J.P.

An incredibly good looking sniper map developed by BlackWidow:
The ambient and the atmosphere are amazing, a huge medieval castle, a church with gregorian chanting and a well that...I´m not gonna tell you the secret of the well, you find out for yourselves.

The only problem I found was the lack of weapons, but as the author explains:
"This map lacks a full compliment of weapons. The map is best run in conjunction with the Mandown mod or on a sniper server."
Maybe a later patch will fix this minor issue!

But it is definitely worth the download. You can get it here.

A new SoF II mod?1:19 by Col.J.P.

Looks like SoF II has a new mod being worked on for it:

From the folks that brought you Alliance Games for Quake 3, LMCTF for Quake 2, and Loki's Missions Single Player games for Quake 2 & Half-Life, comes ICS, a multiplayer add-on pack for Soldier of Fortune II. ICS stands for International Crime Syndicate and is a crime themed pack with maps set in exotic international locations. Right now it's a work in progress but we're currently looking for mappers, modelers and skinners to contribute.

If you're interested, check out their website, here.

"ICS is a multiplayer map and skins pack for Soldier of Fortune II. All maps have been designed specifically for the Infiltration game type although they also support Demolition, Elimination, Capture the Flag, Death Match and Team Death Match. We wanted to add a little bit of a story to Infiltration. The scenario is that the Blue Team is part of an International Crime Syndicate. In each map they try to infiltrate targets such as banks, casinos and art galleries. The defending red team will usually take the form of a swat team or local security personnel.

The ICS bandit logo is taken from the Corsican flag and is also associated with the Corsican Mafia, sometimes called the Maquis. The French Resistance during WW2 was also called the Maquis due to the fact that the Corsican Mob played a large roll in the Resistance. So much so that the French government turned their back on the illegal activities of the Maquis for several decades after the war. In any event, we felt that this would be a fitting image for ICS and would give it some exotic, international flavor. "

Doomsday Games Updated3:25 by Col.J.P.

Skyjake´s Doomsday was updated to version 1.7.5 here (as noticed before):

* You might like to try the -nopsf option in case you prefer that Doomsday's choice of primary sound buffer format doesn't override that of FMOD and other audio applications (when using DirectSound).
* The model loader will automatically check for the existence of DMD models. If a DMD version of an MD2 model exists, the DMD version is loaded instead. I've added a batch file to the jHeretic model pack that converts most of the monsters to DMD.
* The memory zone is no longer used in texture processing. This should be helpful with the large high-resolution texture packs since you don't have to have a huge 90 MB zone any more.
* Some hope for those suffering from infinitely repeating sounds: now the sound code doesn't rely on buffer cursor positions when detecting when a sound has finished playing.
* Bug fixes: clients didn't play sounds without an origin (e.g. item pickup), -noeax caused a crash at startup, game window is hidden in dedicated mode and a few minor fixes.

The games have been updated as well:

* jDoom has now the cvar server-game-coop-respawn-items, which controls whether items should be respawned in co-op games.
* jHexen's default bindings for F2 and F3 were corrected to match those shown in the help screens. Also a bug was fixed concerning the player's active weapon after loading a savegame.

The jHeretic model pack was updated, too:

* In the Md2\jHeretic\ directory there is a batch file called MakeLOD.bat. Running it will generate DMD versions of most of the monsters. Note, however, that the benefit gained from this is not too dramatic: expect a few more FPS in crowded places.
* Models were added: Ring of Invincibility, blue and green key, HUD models for the Firemace and Phoenix Rod, chicken (for monsters), timebomb (hourglass).

Something for the jHexen model pack:

* A model was added: axe key.
* Since all the existing models have a relatively small polycount, having DMD versions of them is unfortunately next to useless.

And don't forget to try out the KickStart v2.0 Beta by Cheb.

TB Hells Bells for SoF II3:05 by Col.J.P.

TBHellsBells is a fun DM City Map that has lots of access to all the building tops. Its a great sniper map and although a decent size it's even fun with 2-3 players. Deep Forest for JK II3:00 by Col.J.P.

A quite simple map for a good deathmatch, it´s a rectangular area with tree models and shrubs and stuff. CAL Playoffs1:51 by Col.J.P.

"Puppet Mowers went a long way towards making a statement in week two of the Cyberathlete Amateur League's SoF2 division. The latest and last version of Qui Gon by Mars Marshall. That is until the Qui Gon model comes out! Still some excellent face textures! Really amazing how it looks like Qui Gon and it's just the Trainer model.
The skin has a two variants, a trainer and a sith version. The trainer one looks a bit weird because his body and hand skin colours don't match wink but still, great job on both of them.

This map has an arena in the centre of a large room with a black pit below. You can get on/off this arena by two walkways on the sides which lead to a room with an elevator which takes you to another room. Pickups and things along the way to 'pick up' of course! There is a third walkway that takes you to this small corridor high in the wall, though it doesn' t seem to lead anywhere.

Included in the zip is a separate pk3 containing the Phantom Knight skin. It's basically a reskin of Kyle except with a few additions to his gear and wearing the clan colours. (Note: This skin replaces Kyle in-game

A Robbery map for SoF II2:11 by Col.J.P.

This is one big and well made map. I just had a quick run around and I found that its big enough to get lost in. This map has bits of everything and it all blends nicely. Even has a story to go with it. Sewers, vents, streets, dark corners, massive rooms (arena style). This is one map that you want. But you do need a few people to play with.

"A shop complex disguised as a Bank. Set in the streets of Prague.
The banks security sector has been breached and the Promethius
terrorist group are attempting to steal Shop intelligence from
inside the bank vaults. The shops agents must protect the briefcase at all costs.
Prometheus terrorist group must destroy either the shop weapon
storage or the computer systems to win the round.
Map supports TDM,DM,INF,ELIM,CTF,DEM,GOLDRUSH,(T)KTMWTB
Suitable for 16+ players."

-We will have better texture compression support, and less memory usage (specially visible on SoF2 support).

-Raven has been contributing some cool stuff, we'll have light radius drawn in the editor

-SplashDamage sent in a long list of updates and tweaks also (from their internal version of GtkRadiant)

-Ydnar has been working on more q3map2 features, and we will probably bundle q3map2 in 1.2.11. Among the new q3map2 stuff, support for JKII and SoF2 compiling!

The Lord of the Rings comes to Jedi Outcast1:54 by Col.J.P.

A new mod for Jedi Knight II centered on Tolkien´s Lord of the Ring´s theme and the incoming movie "The Two Towers".
This mod pack is indeed a large release, divided in six parts, it became a huge project developed by KOTORMRJay, Tim Underbakke and JT Sims:

If you download all of the portions, you will have these 11 new skins:
-Elrond
-Gilgalad (the elf general)
-Strider
-Boromir
-Legolas
-Lurtz
-Nazgul
-Uruk-hai

Plus you have these Two Towers preview skins:
-Faramir
-Eomir
-Knight_of_Gondor

"You will also have 8 new sword's (both regular replacement and JediMod versions). As well as a hilt only version of each, combined with a little fun saber color mod like thing. The concept of the mod thing was to bring some of the power of the patch and Jedi Mod to those who don't use the patch ,basically it lets you have different swords, but the blades are transparent and you must have the Dynamic lighting off(in set up) to get the full effect of the mod.
It was intended for "no patch" games but a few of the testers thought it would have some advantages in Jedi Mod as well so thanks to "Tim 'the Geek' Underbakke" who was responsible for converting all the swords and hilts into jedi mod we have both versions a jedi mod pk3 of both swords full versions ,and the hilt and blade mod thing pk3 as well now you should only have one or the other in the base at a time."

The game, which was ported to the Mac by Westlake Interactive, will be shipping in the next few weeks, maybe as soon as the end of October. Aspyr also plans on releasing a demo, but a date for the demo has not been set yet.

But when a new and menacing threat to the galaxy emerges, Kyle knows he must reclaim his past in order to save his future. Players assume the role of Kyle as they employ a unique mix of weapons, Force powers and your lightsaber in both single- and multiplayer modes.

The Challenge in Jedi Valley 1:36 by Col.J.P.

A single-player mod for Jedi Knight II developed by DarthArth:

"The Challenge is a Ladder type game of sorts. It has a couple features that really make the map complete such as: multiple enemy waves, cutscenes, objectives, a new menu and a couple more! The map resembles the Jedi Valley map we saw in JK2 SP, though it has been made completely by Darth Arth!
A nice open map, plenty of room, and best of all, you have Mara Jade to accompany! You meet some of the good and bad in the Star Wars Universe so keep a look out!"

Jedi Outcast II : The Past Awakened 0:13 by Col.J.P.

"It was a sunny morning on the beaches of Spira. Kyle and Jan were sitting on the back porch of there beach house watching the beautiful sun rise. Kyle was putting the final touches on his new light saber. “There it’s done” Kyle said as he powered it up. “lets see what this saber can do” as he said that someone came up behind him blocking his saber. The intruder realized who he was and then snapped his saber of. “Kyle Katarn” the intruder said, “I’m from the Jedi Academy. Luke sent me to get you.” “What?! Why?” Kyle responded “A group of four people were sent to dispose of the crystals on Ruusan” the Jedi paused “And?” Kyle said “Two of them are missing and when the other two went down to check on them nothing was there but there flash lights and the strangest part was all the statues that were in the room had vanished.” “Well, what are we waiting for? Lets get out of here” Kyle said as he and Jan packed there few belongings and headed for the Jedi’s ship.

As they approached the ship Kyle noticed someone he recognized. “What is she doing here” Kyle said as he powered up his saber and glared at Tavion. “She is my pilot and the newest member of the Jedi Academy” The Jedi responded. “Great” Kyle said in an annoyed tone as he turned of his saber. They all got aboard the ship and headed for Yavin.

“Darn light saber” Kyle said as he thru it to the ground “I can’t get this stupid thing to work!” “Calm down Kyle” Jan said. The Jedi walked in to the room they where in and said “It appears we didn’t clean up the Remnant as good as we had hoped.” “What do you mean” Kyle Demanded. The Jedi responded “We are being pulled in by a Star Destroyers tractor beam!” Everyone readied there weapons as they all heard the far to familiar sound of storm troopers boots clicking over head."

A new 17 level total convertion of Jedi Knight II that continues the story of Jedi Outcast.

The Krusty Krab3:05 by Col.J.P.

When I first tried this little FFA JK II map I did´nt like it that much. I tought it was kinda primary.
But after a while it started to be lots of fun. Made by C2, this is, basicly, a three room gymn (it looks like one) with lots of weapons around, perfect for fast furious action. With good music too!

You can check C2´s webby here, or download the map at PC GameMods.

Aphextwin SoF II Runner Update2:26 by Col.J.P.

An update to a useful server tool. If you wish to be able to set up a professional server in the matter of seconds, this is the tool for you. Lets you easily configure a lot of options from an easy to use interface that would otherwise take some time to type into the console, assuming you knew what to type. This is an update to the old version, but is still a beta, so it may contain some bugs. This version work with the 1.02 patch.

Midnight Madness in SoF II1:59 by Col.J.P.

A very nice map made by Warlord. Split into two clear sides, great for CTF. Also well laid out for any other game type thats supported. I would say that if you have 6 players, your going to have a great time here. There are several ways accross the stream, which just makes this more interesting.
Try this map, and Im sure that you will like it, unless a dark and groomy power generation based in an urban enviroment with several traps isnt your kind of thing.

You can get it at SoF II Files.

Cinematic Saber and Weapons SFX for JK II1:52 by Col.J.P.

Definitely another mod to help make JK II more "Star Warsy", by Patrick:

"This mod changes the lightsaber and many of the weapons sounds to a new set of sound effects taken from the Star Wars movies. I started out wanting the saber sounds to reflect those that I associate with the classic trilogy, but hadn't heard in any existing mod. There are also new weapons sounds from the movies."

Little City Deathmatch map for SoF II1:44 by Col.J.P.

Some of you might remember this map from a while back. Nice and simple design. A small city made up of two sections joined by an underground tunnel and through a building. Good for small fast and furious deathmatch sessions.

In this version of the map there have been some changes. The glass doors have been replaced by sliding ones. You can jump through the windows now (as far as i can remember you couldnt before). The new guns have been added as well as a recruitment room.
The map seems to have more of a feel to it now. I think the textures have been improved.

Artificial Intelligence Gaming Roundtable1:39 by Col.J.P.

"Every good news and entertainment organization needs a slot for self-important talking heads to blabber about a subject they spend more energy pretending to understand than actually trying to understand - and 3DActionPlanet is no different. That's why today we christen the first edition of Gaming Roundtable, 3DAP's very own panel of expert opinion.

We're talking about AI or Artificial Intelligence in PC action games: Where it's come from, where it is now, and where it's going (or needs to go). According to Dictionary.com, artificial intelligence (n. Abbr. AI) is the ability of a computer or other machine to perform those activities that are normally thought to require intelligence."

The toughest job in creating a good action game is the AI?

Evil Dead themed Skinpack for JK II1:31 by Col.J.P.

A skinpack containing around 10 skins. Each skin is supposed to reflect the 'dead' theme, which some of them do pretty well.
The Desann skin is one I particularly like, his face and part of his body is just flesh and you can see his bones and such.
You can imagine the creativity that went into this when such a big variety is there.

The Deadites Characters are inspired by the Evil Dead film,
Army Of Darkness.
You'll find the Army of Darkness Clan server at JK2NOT4HIRE.NET: 24.157.125.68:28070

And the skinpack at Jedi Knight Files.

Warfare: Here and Now SoF II Mod2:50 by Col.J.P.

Warfare: here and now is about today's warfare.
It is about what the rules are and watching who you are shooting at. The main thing is all about team spirit.
You have a team and with that team youre gonna eliminate the opposite team or gonna complete the tasks you were given.
The game is gonna contain an built in voice communication system so you have more contact with youre team members.
You were also given rules of engagement instructions that only consists in youre situation that you dont start slaughtering youre whole crew so you can laugh at them and start shooting the opposite, that sort of tricks are punished by putting you in to a jail room and keep you there for a whole day.
The jail room is given to you when you are over 4 team kills in 2 hours so don't try it.
We try to put in with some help of the servers a code that keeps you in jail for ALL servers who are running the mod so you wont be able to play at other servers.
Sorry but the rule is very important cause some people like to have fun and no teamkillspirits within the team.
Also we are going to perform an arsenal that include real world weaponry: Mp5sdk will be put out of the game and the mp5a3 will be in and offcourse the HK 21e will be in and the m249 SAW. M60 stays) And grenades to have some explosion fun with the game.
Also is points be given to you by youre performance, like when you have dismanteled the bomb you get 10 points and we are trying to have help from servers also so you can update youre points and put them into a tournament.

Features:

1. New team system.
2. Voice communications.
3. Larger maps.
4. New breathing system for sniper's.
5. 32 weapon's and item's. (this is something we go for now, in the future there maybe more.)
6. New HUD display.
7. 32 player combat.
8. 12 scenario's.
9. New skin's of realistic Counter-terrorist force's.

They are alive and kicking, take a look at their website here.

PC GameMods new method of submitting files2:35 by Col.J.P.

Sergio updated the file submit system at PC GameMods:

"I have come to realize that not everybody out there has a good email account with a lot of space for sending files available to them. So hence I created a file submitting form for people to submit their mods. This system makes it easier for both people, you can always submit your files and know they got through, and I have a much easier way of adding them. There is no order, no priorities, your mod receives the attention it needs in the order it was submitted. You can use the new system on the game sections on the "Submit Mod" button. If you previously emailed your file in and I have not put it up yet, please submit it via the submit mod script, your file will get up a lot quicker."

Final Fantasy 7´s Sephiroth in JK II2:28 by Col.J.P.

This is a character from Final Fantasy 7, so those who've played the game will probably have more fun with this model wink. The model is reasonably well done for a first time modeller (especially since JK2 modelling is a bit of a headache). It doesn't warp or distort horribly during animations. The hair at the back of his head looks a bit funny (straight lines n all) not sure if it's supposed to be that way though. The skin is a little blurry, but again, not a bad job!

Bushido MapPack for Jedi Outcast 2:24 by Col.J.P.

Bushido Pack contains 3 maps set in a Japanese setting, along with a skin and a katana to match! The first map is one we have seen before, though the other 2 are pretty cool too! The second one takes place inside a building, plenty of room all around with a statue sitting in the middle. Great lighting effects coming from the window (gives a sense of source of light). The last map looks much like the theme of the first one though it has more buildings in it, a stream and bridge.

The skin looks excellent too, pretty cool how it gives a whole new look to the JediTrainer model!
All 5 things in the pack are definitely worth the download, so check it out!

Sniper only is a method of playing under specified rules of engagement. These rules include no close combat fighting, no same building kill (both players in the same building) and no open person/ open killing.

It's possible that we are about to set a new gametype. join the excitement and see for yourself how much fun this can be.

The New Gaming Culture2:00 by Col.J.P.

For many it may be entertainment, for others it's what they base their life around. Where do we, gamers, fit in? Is gaming just entertainment to us, or is it something much more?

"Although gaming may not be taken seriously, it doesn't get me down when people smack talk it. The fact that I sit in front of a computer 4-6 hours a day means nothing. The outside world knows little to none about the gaming culture. Yes, I said culture. A culture is the beliefs, values, socioeconomic systems and customs shared by a group of people and passed down from generation to generation. This includes language, morals and rites of passage. If you take a look at clans, forums, and IRC channels, all of this becomes evident. We have our own unique culture. Does some business man from New York know what a n00b is, does he know that in Jedi Knight 2 you're supposed to bow before starting a duel?

From a cultural Anthropologist's point of view, we are unique in everything we do. So, why aren't we recognized as so? Most of the world thinks that gamers just sit in front of a bright screen in a dark room and play with their computer. We aren't even recognized as a separate market category, although we clearly have our own tastes and desires."

CAL SoF II division playoffs1:51 by Col.J.P.

Round 1 of the Cyberathlete Amateur League´s SoF2 division playoffs finished last night when Puppet Mowers pulled out a somewhat surprisingly convincing win over LoCals. The Pacific Division has been crazy all year, and [Pm] showed this week why they belong in the playoffs. Vanguard dispatched with Central wild card Diverse with relative ease and look every bit as dangerous as predicted early in the season. Elsewhere in the west, Play With Knives, coming off a disappointing OT loss last week to Team DX, managed to squeek by Xcessive 2 Killing, while their past-week betters in DX were eliminated by a DOGGUS team that is making a strong case for being the favorite in the Pacific division.

It was a bad week for upstart Central teams Arcane Knights of the Apocalypse and Night of the Wolf, as they both suffered big losses at the hands of OTB finalists Deviant Objectives and Zero Five Zero, respectively. Full Effect also dominated in their victory over Ahriman Corps. These three powerhouses finally get to play out-of-division games next week.

This release contains the .ini files for AnimatEd and SklView which allow you to change the load location for SDK files.

For example: if you installed the SDK in C:\SOF2SDK, this should be entered into each file.

Both programs will assume that the base directory is one level deeper than your SDK directory. The
programs also assume the ext_data and skeletons directories are a level lower than that:

So if I installed in C:\SDK, I unpacked the pk3's and made a base structure like this:

C:\SDK\base\skeletons
C:\SDK\base\ext_data

As always, these tools are released "as is" with no support from Raven Software or Activision.

JediOutcastMaps turn into PcGameMods2:18 by Col.J.P.

One of our favorite map sites for Jedi Knight II, JediOutcastMaps turned into a totally new website: PcGameMods.

"Well pcgamemods.com is done, all the maps that were on jedioutcastmaps.com are on here everything works, feature wise. As you probably have noticed...No UT 2003 Maps, but during this week I will add them up (need to take shots of them still). I will also be adding "high res" as a new feature for screenshots for those of you who have broadband and would like to see clearer shots of the levels, anyway any comments or suggestions would be appreciated, go to the forums to tell me about them."

Take a look at the Jedi Knight II page here.
You can submit a file with this e-mail adress.

Echo Base2:04 by Col.J.P.

"This map is of a base in a very snowy place big grin It looks perfect, from the icicle kinda things hanging from the walls, to the snowy landscape outside. Great terrain work as well! The inside of the base is a hangar of sorts with a couple rooms to explore, while the outside seems to be a battlefield eek! with an Imperial base on the other side.
It looks great, and for a beta, I was quite impressed, especially with the little "thingie" in the battlefield wink (won't say what it is, gotta check it for yourself).
The only thing I was a bit disappointed on was the insides of the base wasn't as 'detailed' as the outside. Very blocky looking, but then again it still is a beta and judging from what I see it should turn out great!"

Old Gametypes to SoF II1:53 by Col.J.P.

BuRNSIde started a petition to bring back to Soldier of Fortune II the two old gametypes: Control and Conquer the Bunker.

Both are very fun to play and would fit the Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix game very well.

To have a little more information on these gametypes, read below:

Control- :
A number of flags are set up in places on a map. They are given named such as "Front Gate" for the area they are in. And they are not picked up, instead are "captured" until they are turend to the other team by running over them.

Conqure the Bunker- :
Basic "King of the Hill" game. Person or team to stay the longest, gets the points and wins the game.

Heretic Walkthrough: 3rd and last episode finished7:26 by RambOrc

After nearly 2 years of work, I just finished the 3rd and last episode of my Heretic Walkthrough and Strategy Guide, making it complete at last. Since you've now seen how long it took me to finish this, you can get a fair estimate on how long you still have to wait for the walkthrough of the Heretic expansion pack...

End of Time by Chrono3:38 by Col.J.P.

This map is a mystery...nobody seems to know what is it about!

"I'm not too sure what the significance is with the title and the map, it appears to be some recreation of something but again I don't know. The map has many locations in it, all are accessible by a central location which has a bunch of teleporters grouped together. When you walk close to a teleporter it will tell you where it will take you. Each of these places are small and like little arenas good for duels or small FFA's.
An interesting concept, wish I knew what it means though..."

Another Coruscant map for JK II2:04 by Col.J.P.

Still in beta stage but already kicks. I did´nt try it yet, but I will soon:

"This map takes place on the roof top of a building on Coruscant. Surrounded by a custom sky box of many other Coruscant buildings that definitely adds to theme. There are two basic levels to the map, the top is a simple platform with a hole in the centre and several pickups on the sides, the lower platform is much bigger and has weapons scattered about. There are elevators that take you between the two levels (quite cool actually, they rotate around the building and everything rather than going just up and down)."

You can grab it at Jedi Knight Files.

Doomsday 1.7.5. Available1:51 by Col.J.P.

Skyjake sent in news about a new version of Doomsday Engine, 1.7.5:

* This is a maintenance release.

* You might like to try the -nopsf option in case you prefer that
Doomsday's choice of primary sound buffer format doesn't override that
of FMOD and other audio applications (when using DirectSound).

* The model loader will automatically check for the existence of DMD
models. If a DMD version of an MD2 model exists, the DMD version is
loaded instead. I've added a batch file to the jHeretic model pack
that converts most of the monsters to DMD.

* The memory zone is no longer used in texture processing. This should
be helpful with the large high-resolution texture packs since you
don't have to have a huge 90 MB zone any more.

* Some hope for those suffering from infinitely repeating sounds: now
the sound code doesn't rely on buffer cursor positions when detecting
when a sound has finished playing.

* Bug fixes: clients didn't play sounds without an origin (e.g. item
pickup).

U.S. Navy Seals Alive and Kicking2:17 by Col.J.P.

Here´s some good news from the U.S. Navy Seals SoF II Mod:

"Well, it's been a month, so I feel like I should update. First off, I'd just like to say, no, we are not dead. Secondly, I'd like to say, we are getting the ball rolling again, and are in the middle of hiring a coder and mapper. And finally, I am redoing all models, due to the fact that when I got back from Ft. Lewis my computer was FUBAR and I had to reformat. But on brighter side, I just ordered cable and I will be updating regularly starting the week of 13OCT02."

United States Navy SEALs- Sea, Air, Land. They are the worlds most elite commandos, ready to strike at a moments notice. They are always the first ones in, the last ones out. The U.S. Navy SEALs mod for Soldier of Fortune 2 will place you in command of this elite group of soldiers in NGI's newest mod, SEAL.The player will play as either the SEALs or the enemy force, playing thoroughout numerous different locales and using tons of realistic equipment.

A luxorious resort, it has casino & bar, beach, landing pads, sports arena, trial room, worr's office, and management desk

This map is compatible with FFA at this time, final version will support all gametypes and bot support.

Scattered Evil progress update11:58 by RambOrc

This just came in from the Korax' Heritage team:

With the joint work of Ichor and Moose, a new monster has been implemented into the mod, the red Chaos Serpent. It breathes a different kind of fireball than the green ones. Work is also progressing on the city, the screenshot below is not really a development shot any more. Unless we find a modeler/skinner to create better roofs, what you see below is pretty much what you'll see in the final version of Scattered Evil. So if you've got anything to say about the look of our hub town, time to drop by our forums and tell me what absolutely needs to be changed.

New Revolutionary Gaming6:21 by Col.J.P.

A new group dedicated to mod support rises in the Jedi Knight II community:

"We are an editing group called NRG (New Revolutionary Gaming). NRG is a community-friendly site dedicated to the progress of both established and aspiring editors. Our team consists of a wide variety of members, from Graphic Artists/Designers to Programmers.

People can register for free. They benefit from a wide range of tutorials and advice on different aspects of game editing. The tutorials will soon be available for open release. We believe that everyone interested in editing will find our interactive site helpful and progressive.

The aspiration is that NRG will be a main source for creating Jk2 products and other upcoming game titles for a large number of communities. Possibilities for future editors could also open up. At this time, we are only facilitating our staff members but we look forward to having new people join our website here and view our forums here.
If you want to contact directly, send emails to The Truthful Liar ."

So for those seeking Modding Tips or just a general understanding of editing of the Jedi Outcast game, that is definitely the place to check out.

Gaming to death1:27 by Col.J.P.

According to a report in the Sidney Morning Herald, a 24 year old South Korean man died after playing computer games in an internet cafe for over 86 hours straight. The man didn’t stop to eat or sleep during his marathon online gaming session until he finally collapsed, revived and went to the men’s room, where he was later found dead. The bizarre event took place in Kwangju, 260 kilometers southwest of Seoul, Korea. Local Police have ruled out foul play and categorized the death as being caused by a lack of sleep and food for a long period of time. It was not revealed what game(s) the man was playing.

TB Falcon a new arena map for SoF II4:40 by Col.J.P.

A new Dark Yoda skin for JK II4:33 by Col.J.P.

"A new Dark Yoda skin. The Author says it's better than the first one, and I would agree partially wink. The skin does look nice, skin colour has changed to a more grayish-brown-green, though the robes seem to clash with his skin (they're not very different). But Yoda definitely has an evil look to him."
It was developed by Bastardo.

Steve's JediMod Blade 4:29 by Col.J.P.

This mini-mod changes the blade in JediMod to a more rounded one (something like Ep II, but a little different)and makes the glow more like a glow and less like a colored plastic bat. I liked the look of Pheen-e-Kass's ep II Jedimod blades, but you could see through the core.
The reason you might like these over the existing Ep II blades is that this one's core isn't transparent.

Do you know how to make the perfect clan?2:56 by Col.J.P.

Richard "[Mr]e" Eliott from 3D Action Planet tells you how it is done:

"Without the leaders there would be no clans. And without clans, online gaming would career aimlessly into obscurity. Those of you who have been a clan member, will know what I’m talking about, and for those that have yet to try the joys of clan-life, this is an important guide to help you contribute towards any clan you join.

The problem with starting a clan is usually recruitment. If you are starting out a new game, chances are there won’t be many familiar faces on the servers. Another problem is that recruitment is a double-edged sword; if you rush out and collect 10 people from servers, with no assessment of their ability/personality, chances are you will be suffering big problems for the next few weeks.

Recruiting is the most important process. Who you end up with after you have recruited a full team is the dynamic which will shape your clan(...)"

Team Assault JK II Mod needs help2:50 by Col.J.P.

Andy867 just posted at Jedi Knight II.net :

"Team Assault, the group responsible for the ever-popular JetPack, is in need of mappers to help progress the MOD even more. According to -Tercero-, the Project Leader to-be, the mod has a lot of ideas to revolutionize the game, and that the jetpack was only an inkling of things to come, but without mappers, the mod might not see the light of day.

Hi, this is -Tercero- of Team Assault, the mod team who brought you the Jetpack demo. We're looking to fill a few positions. We have undergone a number of changes, including myself becoming the new team leader. We are in need of a few good mappers, as well as a coder to help with the creation of the mod."

Eathdor Streets 2:20 by Col.J.P.

"The map has a good theme to it, and infact I would have quite liked it if it weren't for some rather nasty errors in it. For one, the map seems very unfinished, I'm not sure if this is a beta version or something but it has some blatant errors in it. For one there are brushes extending too far (and are invisible on some faces). Second you can fall off the edge of the map. Third the bottom of the map gives the HOM effect... basically there were many problems which really bring down the map."

I don´t think it is that bad, a simple patch could fix it all! Take a look at and judge for youselves in Jedi Knight Files.

Help Wanted at Dark Forces Mod3:11 by Col.J.P.

The Dark Forces MOD team has immediate openings for skilled developers in the following areas:

Texture Artist - recreate the original DF textures in high resolution.

3D model skinner - create high resolution skins for low-poly models

3D modeler - create low-poly character models of enemies, items, etc.

Coder - modify the Wired Lamp MOD Source Code to recreate behaviors, weapons and enemies found in Dark Forces

Mapper - re-create the level design of the original maps, including scripting doors, elevators, traps, enemy way points and other events as required.

These positions are open until filled, are needed immediately, and should be filled by someone who is NOT in college at the moment - enough of us are in college already and it's really having a negative impact on the progress we are making. Send a mail to Darth_Linux if you want to help developing The Dark Forces mod for Jedi Knight II, a remake of the classic that started it all, Star Wars: Dark Forces!

The Arena Showdown for Episode 3 JK II Mod0:46 by Col.J.P.

Released by Killer_2000, Arena Showdown basically re-enacts (to some extent) the battle in the large arena in Episode II. You start off with a bunch of clonetroopers, some Jedi (Aayla Secura, Mace Windu, etc.), Padme and others. They follow you around (and also walk too slow stick out tongue) so just be a bit careful as they can get themselves stuck and are too stupid to 'unstick' themselves wink. Make sure they stay close to you also otherwise they will get locked behind the door when you leave!

There are many battle droids waiting for you outside.... so if you left any of your people behind you'll need them now (for body armour if not to help you kill Devil!).
There is no Jango or any of those other big evil guys here.. just battle droids.

For this map to work you gonna need two files:
The Large Sand Arena map that can be found here, and the Episode 3 Mod for Jedi Outcast here.

The Arena Showdown can be downloaded at Jedi Knight Files.

Anakin Skywalker and a Fistfull of Sabers0:35 by Col.J.P.

"Another model to complete any Star Wars game today! Anakin Skywalker now available for JK2.
Vahl has done an impressive job creating Anakin, very detailed... l The skins are done by Fardreamer and though he did attempt to make them look like Anakin it just didn't come out, but you can tell it's Anakin (who says everything has to look like the movies wink). The body looks right on though! Great job on the clothing!
The only thing missing however are some good sound files!"

Grab it here.

And developed by Kristophan, a bunch of saber hilts that you can use with JediMod or JediPLUS. Some of these hilts are actually quite original (I like saber #6 the best big grin) so I'd say they're worth checking out in here.

USA copyright battle: piracy-vs.-privacy0:21 by Col.J.P.

"With last week's introduction of legislation protecting "consumers' rights in the digital age," the stage is set for a heated debate next year about what home users would be allowed to do with copyrighted music and video, and how far the entertainment industry could go to protect its content.

Provisions of the bills would let:

* Consumers play digital works on devices of their choice, such as a personal video recorder, to save a digital TV broadcast to watch later.
* Consumers sell or give away the original copies of digital works they have bought.
* Manufacturers market devices that make non-infringing digital copies. (Uploading to the Net may not be included.)"

Man Down mod for SoF II updated with Female Team Skins2:23 by Col.J.P.

New to 1.02 compatible version:
* support for 1.02 code
* new gametype : Capture and Hold
* includes female team skins for all teams
* includes missing female radio message or substitutes them
* fixeds few misc. 1.02 bugs
* uses ManDown's alternate lean fix code

Can't lean through cubicles etc on mp_raven, but can lean over railings/out windows on mp_shop. Original code is included for league support only - use g_sof2defaults 2 to enable.

Capture and Hold is similar to Unreal Tournament's 'DOMINATION' mode, except capturing points takes time - you can't just touch a point, you have to actually use it (like planting / disarming a bomb in Dem). The more points your teams holds, the faster you get points.

You can check the Man Down mod webby here.

Client Side and Server Side Stats for SoF II9:42 by Col.J.P.

Just received this message from J.Wohlever Editor in Chief of Wohlever' World:

"I have made a version of parseit originally by Jared "CoolBad2"
Armstrong from Planet Quake that is set-up for simple stat tracking for Client side or Server side stat SOF2 games.
Very easy to use.
It is BETA as I have not finished all the kill codes.
To use, simple extract the zip (46KB) to your C:\ Root
Then edit the config.ini within the Parseit folder:
- Alter the line: Log = C:\SOF2\base\mp\qconsole.log # Log file to be parsed to match where your qconsole will be.
Also make sure in your SOF2MP.CFG file you have: seta logfile "2"
If not, add it.

After playing some mp games, go to the Parseit folder, run Parseit.exe.
You will now have HTML stats in the Parseit/sof2 folder.
You can also edit the .bat file in the www folder and have it
automatically upload results to a website while you play.

I am not taking credit for the program, which seems to have stopped

Palace Wars in JK II3:30 by Col.J.P.

The biggest Jedi Outcast map I have ever seen...It´s a nightmare to find your way back after capturing the thingie...!
An incredible large map of two palace's joined together by an open air courtyard. A ton of detail in this map everywhere you go and look, and the lighting just adds an extra element that really makes the level look great.

The central courtyard has two entrances to each base, one is more direct while the other does wind around here and there. Each base has a very small yet very beautiful (yes, I meant to say beautiful wink) garden/courtyard. These also contains health pools which are team based (i.e. people from the blue team use the health pool and vice versa for the red team).

The many parts to the palace are connected by teleporters, so it would be a good idea to get used to this map and know where you are going to get teleported to.

The big file size, 27 megs, is completely worth the download!

Get it at Jedi Knight II Files.

Doom_Dude´s new Heretic Level4:36 by Col.J.P.

Doom_Dude is making a new Heretic map, by his own words:

"A few days ago I started to work again on a Heretic map I had kicking around on my comp for about a year. I wanted to make something for Heretic using the Legacy 3D floors. Initially the plan was to make one map and that would be it. Yeah right!!!! So now I'm finished E2M1 of a new project I'm calling Shadowcore which will be a new episode of nine maps. I'm releasing this preliminary wad because it was my intention to release this as a single wad anyhow and I want to see what people think of this Heretic effort so far. I also started the 2nd map which continues the dark castle type theme and I'm calling the map 'Frostwall'. After that level the player will travel through a cool 'Forsaken Pathways' map and across 'The Bridge of Despair' and down into a 'Lavaforge'.... Those are my basic map names for some of the following levels..."

Download the Heretic, Icebound map demo for Shadowcore here!

Games and reality11:49 by Col.J.P.

"For Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix, John F. Mullins, a former Green Beret who led secret missions in Laos, Cambodia and North Vietnam, was both a consultant to the game's maker, Activision, and the main character, a covert American operative trying to stop bioterrorists. (Asked if he had actually operated in any of the game's locations, from Colombia to Prague to Hong Kong, he said, "I'm not at liberty to say.")

Other games, including Desert Storm, also emphasize stealth and cover. Mr. Mullins said that in real combat "you expose little."

He said the most glaring break with reality he has seen in video games is for a soldier to go it alone, automatic weapons blazing in Rambo style, against platoons of the enemy. "The day I go against 400, 500 bad guys is the day I'm going to shoot myself and save them the trouble," he said(...)"

OSP for Soldier of Fortune 2 : Double Helix6:35 by Col.J.P.

derean from Orange Smoothie Productions let us know that they are coming to SoF II:

"Let me first present myself to the good OSP folk who don't know me yet, I'm formerly 'Kil'derean of Threewave fame, and PureCTF before that. I coded other small mods which aren't really important, and designed a few levels. I made a couple of tutorials on Code3Arena and donated the source code of PureCTF. Hi. :)

I talked to rhea a while back about his plans for Sof2, the "other" quake3 engined game, and he quite blatantly admitted to me that he didn't care much for it. So I offered my help, since I did care about it, what with the game being loads of fun, and also some of the Threewave crew working on official maps for the game.

So I guess this is sort of the official announcement for Sof2 OSP. I've started working on it 1 month ago doing little stuff here and there, as seen on the Quakeshit servers. But now that 1.02 is out and about, I've started working on the real thing and we could expect a release pretty soon.

In the mean time you will probably be able to get a taste of things to come on the Quakeshit servers (www.quakeshit.com) as soon as next week. As tubesock has graciously offered to help beta test Sof2 OSP (thanks tube!)."

Masters of the Force6:20 by Col.J.P.

Razor Ace , one of the project Leaders of the JK II Mod Master of The Force sends word that his team is holding a Logo Contest. Here's what Razor has to say about it:

"I'd like to announce the Masters of the Force Animated Logo Contest. The purpose of the contest is to find a animated logo, similar to JK2 logo in concept for MotF.

If you don't know what Masters of the Force is, go here .

The winner's logo will become the official logo for MotF and will be
used repeatedly in the Mod. The winner WILL be full credited for his/her
work. In addition, depending on the winner's will, they may be called
on to adapt the logo to the Mod's needs (AKA size, format changes,
etc.)

The requirements are to create an animated logo that matches the MotF
theme. The logo CAN be static but must have some sort of intro or outro
animation (For use in the startup screen or a possible intro sequence.)
2D or 3D. Length is unimportant. We're not picky about what it like,
but we want something catchy like the JK2 Logo. Sounds are a plus but
not required. The format of the logo is up to you, but it has to be in a
format that we can view. Send your logos to me at Razor Ace ."

A second interview from The Attack of the Clones mod0:43 by Col.J.P.

Darth Vader was the victim of Andy867 this time, in a very well made interview:

"Andy867:
with your position, what kind of authority, and what kind fo work for the project is it that you do
[XG]darthVADER:
wel i have access to everything inside our TC like anakin and I'm chief mapper and curently working on tattooine
Andy867:
Now with the maps, Anakin was telling everyone that they will need a high-end machine to run things. Is it possible to sacrifice some of the detail for those still with medium to low-end machines? Because not every has P4 with a billion MB of RAM
hehe
[XG]darthVADER:
Well, we are trying to keep the system reqs as low as possible but I would say people with 800MHZ and a geforce card can play this at medium I think but we'll determine that when we come closer to the beta(...)"

Interview with Anakin, Project Leader of the Attack Of the Clones TC for JK II2:50 by Col.J.P.

Andy867 conducted an interview with Anakin, the project leader from the Attack of the Clones Total Convertion for Jedi Outcast:

"I recently had the honour of interviewing the Attack of the Clones TC Project Leader, Anakin. And with each question, I found out more and more of what I or most of the public didn’t know. But here is how the interview went.

Andy867: What is the basis of the TC? Like what are you aiming for more? Accuracy or Gameplay?

Anakin: The whole point of the TC was basically to follow the movie as closely as we could follow. The main problem that we found when we started to think about the levels and such, is that AOTC wasn’t really a movie that you could get into and 'play'. So we took the bold step of using the novel version and basing the TC on that. We feel that we want to let everyone explore that bit more of the story and more, but stick to the film as much as possible (...)"

Raven Profiles3:29 by Col.J.P.

A new feature at Raven-Games : In a weekly basis, Phoebus will be introducing everyone to the new guys at Raven .

The first one will be the newly hired Sound Guy, Gregory Allen.

"Q-When were you hired by Raven and how did that come about?

A-Well I had just come back from working in Germany for 4 years and I started doing contract work. I have been part of some message boards that only deal with audio for games. On these boards a guy from another company said Raven Software was hiring a sound guy. I went to their web site and check out the information and research what the company was all about. I had played Raven games in the past and at a former company that I worked for about 5 years ago, I had done sound effects for a Raven game in the past.
So I sent my resume and waited for a response. When the response came from Kevin Schilder (Audio Manager) through e-mail, we set up a time to have a phone interview. The interview went well, we both clicked together and before I knew it Raven few me out for an interview.
I had the in-person interview and I started work on July 29, 2002.
The rest is history…(...)"

Jedi Knight II Blade Mod in the making2:36 by Col.J.P.

Here´s some great news: Covax, the author of the Dragon Remix Ladder mods, has teamed up with Quigon007, the author of Episode III: A Jedi's Worst Fear mod to make a new mod based on the movie Blade 2.

Quigon007 and Covax teamed up to start a Blade mod for JKII called Blade: Knight of Dracul. The homepage is right here .
They've created a Design Document as well as a Promotional Beta (based off of the Dragon Remix) to build interest in the community.
You can get the beta here .
It was created to show what is possible given what's available for download. The Design Document will only be available to those who will help out with the mod, mainly to keep some plot-surprises secret. Their goal is to create a Single Player Total Conversion, pretty much all of the positions are open.
