[GPJ] The Room0:25 by Col.J.P.

Padawan Bob brings us a small FFA map for your dueling pleasure. [GPJ] The Room is a room with two levels that has a few switches that when hit extend out more platforms for dueling. The new platforms last for forty five seconds, doesn’t seem like enough time to duel or fight.

This isn’t the authors first map but it is his first one he has released, so go easy on the comments and offer some suggestions. Not a bad idea with the switches!

The Green Inferno0:13 by Col.J.P.

This is a very nice map for Soldier of Fortune II from DkViPeR2k8! it supports DM TDM Elim Infi and CTF and will host 2-32 players, the more the better, there are some secrets hidden in the map see how long it takes you to find them.

A medium sized, jungle map with plenty of grass, trees, and other objects. Includes six tree-stands and a few useful secrets that are good for when your base is being infiltrated! You'll have to find them yourself although. Two small rivers with bridges, big temple, and a few houses.

Youo can get it at SoF II Files.

Temple0:01 by Col.J.P.

Imagine yourself, if you will, standing 60 foot above the surface of Bespin, the sun has just started to rise and a slight mist covers the area. This however, is no time for you to be looking at the scenery for you are standing on the blood gods tower, no-one knows how this tower was built and why it was built 60 feet in the air.Leged has it the great blood god himself built the tower. Every month a sacrifice must be made on the tower and you are fighting t prevent that sacrifice being you, the growd gather to watch you fight and the only way down without being in a black bag is to fight. The floor looks remarkably unstable but now it is time to duel!

ISA-boburob-CM brings us another cool duel map with as little background story as well. Duel temple takes place on a large platform way up in the sky with three levels, only two are big enough for fighting on. Some of the pillars have spikes on the sides and there are plenty of spikes for show (to bad you can not be impaled on them). This map is good for dueling in tight spots so watch out for those ledges!

Delta Quadrant Weapons Mod23:53 by Col.J.P.

The main part of this Elite Force mod is that it replaces the Phaser with a Vidiian Harvester, and the Compression Rifle with a Hirogen Disruptor Rifle. It also changes a couple other weapon sounds such as the Tetryon and Photon. The Vidiian weapon is pretty nice, from the looks of it, it resembles the actual weapon pretty nicely. The Hirogen rifle looks a little too flat and needs some more 3d work to it.

The new sound changes sound very muted and similar.. though interesting, nonetheless. The new detpack explosion sound has a lot of static in it which kind of ruins the effect.

Overall, a decent mod. If you like to change MP around a bit then might want to give it a try at Elite Force Files.

J4f Haunted House23:46 by Col.J.P.

Here is a very sweet map of a haunted house for Soldier of Fortune II. It supports all game types and is real fun to play so I suggest you download it straight away this map is gonna be a big hit!

It features brand new textures and team spawn rooms outside the map to stop spawn killing!

Check it out at SoF II Files.

Shadow Mansion23:38 by Col.J.P.

Shadow Mansion is a medium sized FFA map for Jedi Outcast brought to us by Shadow_Lord. This map consists of a mansion of sorts with a few secret areas, an enclosed dueling area, a room with water in it (I don’t know why) and a few other rooms. The top of the mansion has a steeple and there is a crazy waterfall thing that doesn’t have much purpose either except maybe for hiding.

Granted this is the authors first map there are a ton of errors that should’ve been caught, not to mention missing textures. The map has no theme and lacks any kind of natural flow making this kid of useless as well as an eye sore.
(news comments by Maddog)

You can try it anyhow at Jedi Knight II Files.

New Korax' Heritage roadmap2:49 by RambOrc

The Korax' Heritage team posted a new roadmap on their site, telling us about the near future of their projects. The most important change is that because of the delays with their grand-scale RPG, Scattered Evil, they'll continue the development of Korax Mod, implementing quite some of the new Scattered Evil technology like NPCs, conversations, quests etc. For more information, read the Korax' Heritage homepage.

Tank Base1:03 by Col.J.P.

Here we have TheFan's first map for Soldier of Fortune II. A nice job too. It is a medium size map and supports dm, tdm, eli, inf and ctf. It has enough space for you to move and hide around corners. Another map to add to your SoF II collection:

You can find it at SoF II Files.

CTF Xile Temple1:02 by Col.J.P.

A nice medium-large size CTF map for Elite Force using the AND textures set. This map combine large area and sniper point with smaller corridors. The numerous way from one flag to the other allow this map to carry a lot of player, easily over 20.

On the tech side, the error are small and hard to find. Only a few badly caulked brush, tiny and rare overlapping, and some area that would have gain to be clipped. Beside that, it's flawless. This is surely a good CTF map to add to your collection that can be found at Elite Force Files

Imperial Arena1:01 by Col.J.P.

This is a nice little FFA map consisting mainly of a large, squar room with a balcony of some kind, a ship parked, and then a hallway warping around the room. Pretty basic.

This map is decent for FFA and TFFA. It would have made a GREAT JM map, but alas, no JM support. In the main room I think there could be more cover for the gunfighting, but that's just me. This isn't much of a hang out map due to it's size, best used for fast paced FFA. Good map, worth the download if you want to have a slaughterfest.

[AK]_duel Map0:03 by Col.J.P.

[AK]Reborn Boss brings us an updated version of the clan map. This version fixes most of the missing textures and that’s it (not sure if those floors are sopposed to be white). Download this newest version if you liked the original or play on the clans server. Not bad a fast update to remedy the problems but I feel he could’ve added bot support.

This is a large, duel/ffa map brought to us from clan [AK]. Essentially it is a large room with teleporters leading to other places to duel. There is a large room with a center platform floating over untextured walls, and invisible walls keeping you from falling, a large rockey outdoors type room, and a large, square room with windows and health in FFA.

You can get it at Jedi Knight II Files.

FFA Greatfox for Jedi Outcast0:23 by Col.J.P.

JEDI_MASTER brings us an FFA map based on a Super Smash Bros. level. FFA_GREATFOX is a pretty large FFA map with plenty of pick-ups for a good slaughtering. There seems to be two problems with this map the outside of the ship is hideous and too white, and the one room looks like it is missing textures. Take a little extra time and try and find the hidden room.

In the reamdme the author says you cannot walk on the outside of the ship this is not true based on my screenshots. This map has a nice blend of Starfox and Star Wars giving it an overall decent fun factor and making it worth the download. A well-done map with two minor flaws that I mentioned above (nothing to stop you from downloading this), great work keep on mapping.

It has new textures, new music and bot support. You coan find it at Jedi Knight II Files.

Jedi Academy Interview0:09 by Col.J.P.

The Dark Forces/Jedi Knight/Jedi Outcast series of first person action games from LucasArts have all centered around the character of Kyle Katarn but the latest and upcoming game in the series, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy from developer Raven Software, has the player actually create his own Jedi Knight for the next chapter in this part of the Star Wars saga. HomeLAN got a chance to chat with Raven Software's project administrator Kenn Hoekstra to find out more about their plans for Jedi Academy:

HomeLAN - First, were Raven and LucasArts pleased with the notices Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast received from gamers and critics?

Kenn Hoekstra - Yes. Raven was very proud to have worked on a Star Wars game that critics and gamers felt was a worthy successor to Dark Forces and Jedi Knight. Activision and LucasArts were also quite pleased in that regard. We were happy to have the chance to work in the Star Wars universe again on Jedi Academy.

HomeLAN - When the decision was made to make yet another Jedi Knight game what were the development team's main goals?

Kenn Hoekstra - What we really wanted to do was expand on everything that worked well in JKII and to add new game elements to bring another dimension to the series. Thus, we added new lightsabers, new force powers, more recognizable Star Wars characters, and more levels based on what was well received in JKII. We also wanted to allow the player to create their own Jedi experience in the game rather than follow a pre-determined character like in past games. We allow the player to create their own Jedi character, choose their own force powers as they progress through the game, and really decide how they want to play through the game by allowing them to choose their own missions. Also, by including more episodic and less linear missions allowed us to go to more locations with varying gameplay.

USS Prometheus RPG for Elite Force0:49 by Col.J.P.

Prometheus is yet another RPG map to add to the growing RPG map section. You get to explore 5 out of 6 decks (unless there is some mistake, Deck 4 went missing!) including major areas such as the Bridge, Engineering, Mess Hall, Brig, Crew Quarters and a number of other rooms typical to a futuristic starship. There are plenty of computer panels that you can interact with to bring up forcefields, shut down the warp core, fire torpedoes...there is a lot you can do in this map!
The design is certainly much different from what's normally done (well, it is the Prometheus after all). Areas that are particularly interesting are the Bridge, Engineering, Crew Quarters and the Deflector control area. Other areas were a bit reminiscent of Voyager (such as the Brig and Mess Hall).

Developed by Phil, Carley, and Phenix with new textures, new sounds and new models, it can be found at Elite Force Files.

SoF2 Mp B.A.R.D (1.1)0:39 by Col.J.P.

SoF2MP: BARD is short for "Soldier Of Fortune II Multiplayer: Bots And Realistic Damage"! The aim of SOF2MP: BARD was to add an integrated realistic damage mode to the standard SoF II multiplayer, as well as bots, whilst making minimal changes to the code.
This is a great alternative for server administrators running the regular SoF II, but want the option to use “Realistic Damage” and online bots, whilst keeping the base game play as Raven intended it.

This is the most up-to date version, with more features. A big round of applause to Arkanis for making such a good mod. So what are you waiting for, give it a try at SoF II Files!

Desann and Tavion Strike Back0:33 by Col.J.P.

Desann and Tavion Strike Back - a single player mod for Jedi Outcast where the two try to exact revenge on you, Kyle Katarn. The mod begins with you in a foggy and lowlit hangar, staring into the face of three Stormtroopers who are ready to riddle you with their ammo. If you can get past them, be prepared to face a few more baddies in the next few rooms, but it's not long before you come to a glass maze where you you will fight the eager Tavion. Once you defeat her, you move through the maze all the while being taunted by Desann who just can't seem to wait to tear you apart.

This is a really small SP mod, which leads to believe that its Sverrearagorn's first mod. There really aren't many bad guys to kill on your way to Desann and Tavion. Then again, this isn't titled Troopers Strike Back. All things considered, this was a decent SP mod.

Activision sent out the SoF2 XBox Press Release, promoting the new console port of Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix.

Scavenger Voyager mod for Elite Force3:08 by Col.J.P.

This mod switches the Scavenger and Voyager textures and models around. There are 12 Imperials, 52 Klingons, 3 Malons, 2 Hirogens, and 1 Borg, that are now the new crew of USS Voyager Janeway and her gang are now stationed on the Scavenger base. The texture changes seem to have been done with some thought, to say the least. Most other 'texture mods' haphazardly replace misfitting textures left, right and centre. This one actually doesn't look bad! The mod is not complete yet, but this should give a taste of what's to come. Some custom textures are made to fit 'unique' areas of Voyager.

This mod was created by Jaw, comments or suggestions can be sent to him here!

You can find it at Elite Force Files.

Dual Sniper 2 for SoF II2:52 by Col.J.P.

Here we have a map by BSF_Dustin which was inspired by the map KZ_Dual_Sniper, the map all snipers out there love and adore. This map is a medium size map, and supports dm, tdm, ctf and ctdm. If you like sniping and want to put your sniper skills to the test then give this a download, a must for any sniper:

In its author words: "Tried to make the Dual_sniper map a little more jungle-like, so I created a similar map and added some grass and plants...A little more trees and models included so you have a better chance of hiding or reaching the other camp! This time, you can actually go all the way down to the little forrest with bunker (shelter) under the bridge..."

DexstersDiner for Jedi Outcast2:44 by Col.J.P.

Swellcaster brings us a larger version of Dexter’s Diner, based on Reyor-Wan Semaj version. The map is a larger version of what the diner looks like with some added extras. There is a stage with some microphone stands and red spotlights. There is counter with see through windows to the kitchen with some burgers on the grill, and the back room is a larger fighting area with a viewing area. There are enough pick-ups for a good old gun FFA; there is plenty of room for dueling as well.

With good looks comes bad FPS, for me anyway and I have a new graphics card and upgraded my memory. There is a lot of little things to look at like the jukebox, the moving droid and the cooking grills, a nice map for goofing off but not good for a serious fight!

Assembled Jedi Kyle Mod Overwrites Launcher Skin10:46 by dpath2100

If you go to your JK2 directory, you see some files and two folders. One of these, of course, is the almighty GameData folder. The other, little-thought-about, is the Install folder. Residing in here are several things, including launcher sounds and skins (in the form of. Reskinning the launcher should be simple, then: just replace the skin (a 500 x 480 bitmap that goes by the name of Product) with your own bitmap of the same size.

However, you have to overwrite the file. Therein lies the problem with the Assembled Jedi Kyle Mod. An easy mod to remove, it nevertheless has a problem: unless you back up the original Product.bmp file, it is very hard to get the original launcher back. Take heed.

The mod, however, is not in itself a bad one; the only problem was that it overwrote a key file.

Mark3 Model for Jedi Outcast11:35 by dpath2100

The name of this new model needs explanation. It finds its roots in the NPC naming of the single-player JK2 game. Two droids are called "mark1" and "mark2" when they are spawned via the "NPC spawn" cheat. Thus, when Chairwalker made this robotic model, he called it "mark3." There is no mention of the droids' names in the game at all, which explains Maddog's confusion when he reviewed the model. The model uses base-JK2 textures (from the "mark1" roller droid that fought you at the Doomgiver's tram system) and sounds. The model has been playtested by Dpath2100 Himself, and was playable with BaseJK, although ForceMod II playability could NOT be confirmed.

Maddog's Review:
Chairwalker brings us a new model (hmm I was right we would see more great work from this author, hehehe) entitled Mark3. Here is the author’s description of the model, which is as of now the "Featured Model" on the Main JK2Files Site :

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
im submitting another model.
Its a droid called mark3 (like the Mark1 and Mark2 robots Kyle encounters in singleplayer)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are four versions to this skin default, red, blue and a dark version. All of the versions except the default have a silver blade coming off of the left arm. The textures and sounds for this model come from the SP version of the game. The model looks like he was put together using scrap pieces of metal and hoses. I like the way the legs look when he is standing reminds me of a dinosaur. The animations look great in game and move pretty smooth.

I don’t really remember Mark1 from SP because I haven’t played it for a while and I never got around to finishing it, but either way you slice it this model is awesome and has everything you expect. The only thing missing is bot support, but with four versions of the skin I can see past that. I suggest you all download this file you will not be upset. Great work, keep on modding.

As I said with your last file awesome job and on behalf of the JK2 community I THANK YOU!

Bot Support: No
Team Colors: Yes
New Sounds: No (SP)

Assembled Jedi Kyle Mod0:14 by Col.J.P.

This mod from N3G1@ was created, to quote "I wanted to make this mod to make JK2 more realistic." Blood, an orange lightsaber, new animations for push, pull, and rolling, the way you hold your saber in blue and red stances, and different saber colors for each reborn. Kyle is reskinned, Chris Reed's blood mod, and Andrew McLaughlin's dark-lightning mod are all implimented.

It is an interesting idea for a mod. I definately prefer the reskin of kyle to normal kyle, but I'm not a fan of the blood mod, and most of the new animations (Forward and Backward rolls are akin to "amspin2" in vulcanus, pull and push look really messed up, and the way you hold your saber in blue stance looks REALLY stupid, held outward like you had just lost a saber lock). The side rolling cartwheels looked cool, and the dark-lightning looks good. I also like the way your character looks like he's "breathing", his chest and shoulders moving up and down slowly. Other then that though... I don't really see much reason to download this mod. It has a few perks, but mostly not. The changes aren't that big, but they're small in a bad way. However I can see why some people would want to download this mod. If you want a little twist on the game, maybe the old animations bore you, then feel free to download this. I, however, will not.

The Battle of Los Angeles1:18 by Col.J.P.

The Battle of Los Angeles - not just an album by Rage Against the Machine - also a JK2 map! Orbitius shares with us his latest map that is quite apparently supposed to be like, downtown LA. Which makes me wonder if he's ever been to LA. There are two perpendicular streets and several buildings line both sides of one street. Only three, I think, of these buildings can you enter. One is a bar, the other two are house, or apartment buildings - I'm not sure. Everything is dilapidated ... boards across the windows, broken TV, fallen stairs, etc. At the end of the road is a neglected basketball court with a chainlink fence running around it. Just across from the court is a parking lot with two dumpsters in the shadows. One of those will take you to, well, a very unpleasant place.

If you take the other street, both ways are dead ends. As the signs indicate: road closed. There is an upturned car lying in the street. Very colorful graffiti covers the walls around you. And the only guns that are available on the map are found in this area, on the medians and near the "Road closed" sign. There aren't many choices when it comes to weapons and I remember only seeing ammo for two of the four guns available. Health and shield pickups are few and far between. The manhole cover is breakable and leads to a long underground tunnel that takes you all around the small neighborhood. There are a few secrets to be found down there. The music, of course, I'm assuming, is Rage Against the Machine.

Kurono Mountain Tournament map for JK II1:00 by Col.J.P.

Kurono Mountain Tournament is what it claims to be and more. This map serves the purpose of a tournament map, with four very different areas for dueling. The most traditional looking arena is a small, well-lit platform in the center and a ledge surrounding it, which would be perfect for viewing the duel taking place. Another arena includes a ship in deep, dark water and an island off in a corner. I love that the lanterns on the masts actually swing in the "wind", which you can hear the higher up you go on the masts. A dilapidated structure with busts that breathe fire greet you in an adjacent arena. The fallen columns, broken and splintered door and haphazard stairs here could make for some very interesting duels. And finally, the last arena has some large, floating rocks that form the shape of a dragon. The rocks do move slowly, but one wrong move and you could find yourself plummeting to your death in the pit below which houses what, I think, are dragon eggs afire.

In the center of this map is a building with a sake bar and if you take the three flights of stairs up, there is a restaurant with a patio outside. While the building does seem a bit far from all four arenas, it still can serve as a viewing area. If you take the back door out the bar, you'll enter the "Garden of Peace" where there is a fountain and a memorial dedicated to President Scroob. And if you happen upon the right area, you'll be transported to the locker room where you'll find a very interesting piece of art on the wall and benches in the middle of the room, flanked by large lockers.

The textures used in this map are gorgeous, the music is surprisingly appropriate (FF7 fans will recognize the track), the layout makes sense and it was all constructed well. Each arena is like it's own miniature duel map all connected with a viewing area and a little garden to make this a great tournament map. I believe my only complaint would be the FPS issue I have with this map. I averaged about 15-20 on most of the map.

Yavin Duel0:02 by Col.J.P.

Anders "AnD" De la barra brings the latest in Yavin based maps entitled Yavin Duel. This is the author’s first map that he has released. This map is a small square shaped room with a few areas around the main dueling area for watching the duels or looking out the window area and checking out the scenery. Nice touch on the broken look on the one standing area but the door looks a little out of place and doesn’t fit with the rest of the textures.

Not bad for a first map, a few energy and shield pick-ups for all of your quick health needs. The author added some music for your dueling pleasure called Yavin Explore. This map would be good for trials or duel tournaments!

Starbase Mythology (ERP) for Elite Force0:22 by Col.J.P.

This is a map of a Starbase that Phenix originally constructed for Ef1, but he's going to finish it for EF2. He decided to release his work so far to the EF1 public. It's a good ERP map, not that many whistles and bells, but enough to have a good time.

This map features EPS explotions, Red Alert and some other cool stuff originally made for Elite Roleplaying.

Check it out at Elite Force Files.

[Mad] Platforms0:14 by Col.J.P.

[MaD]SPiKE[CL] brings us the first version of the Masters of Anarchy and Destruction clan map. [Mad] Platforms is a medium sized map with three rooms: the first room has a large dueling area surrounded by two sky boxes for viewing from the side, the second room has a pillar in the center that has to glass platform on them connected by glass ramps with some room to fight on the ground are, the last room is a room with three platforms connected by catwalk like paths:

Not a bad first map, the last room is kind of useless in my opinion with no room for fighting. You have to keep in mind this is the first version and expect bot support and some more goodies for the second version. The main room would be good for trials and the second and third rooms would be fun to grip and throw your opponent to their deaths.

Kyle's Nightmare singleplayer map for JK29:55 by Tito

Lord Thom (Thomas L.) brings us this map called Kyle's Nightmare, a singleplayer map!!! There's not really a big plot here: Kyle is asleep, and has a dream, and that dream is what you're playing in! This map wouldnt be half as good if it wasnt for Darth Arth creating spectacular scripting (which Lord Thom gave him plenty of credit for, something not all mappers do)! It's a nice map, what i call a 'moving ladder'! Contains excellent cutscenes, scripting, and map detail! A must, if you have my personality, intelligence and good looks:-P!

The Wasenshi Compound0:22 by Col.J.P.

The first thing you'll notice about this map is that it is bright. Very, very bright. It's so bright, in fact, that unless you made note of the shadows cast by the trees and such, you wouldn't even realize that the author had made a lightmap at all. Had he just compiled the map unlit, the effect would have been very much the same. Unfortunately, it makes it a little hard to enjoy the map, because it feels like all the details are thrown at you in one fell swoop -- careful lighting makes things a little more relaxed, and lets you absorb a map piecemeal:

This map is divided into seven primary parts. At each corner is a deep, wide cube, set underground with glass riding the ceiling so that observers can peer down at ongoing duels. It's a cool idea, kids, but it's very uninteresting. You can find a thousand other places to have identical duels, and many of them have a much more enveloping atmosphere. Lesson number two is to remember that dueling areas need something to separate them from the norm. If you have four dueling areas in one map, and they're all identical, things are going to get very boring very quickly. Variety is the key, kids, variety is the key. Spice up those arenas!

Soul Reaver model for Jedi Outcast0:13 by Col.J.P.

Cloud_guy brings us a sword model based on Kain’s sword from the Soul Reaver series. The author has replicated this sword very well and has removed the saber blade colors. Someone told the author that the sounds were annoying so the sounds for this sword are optional and added in a separate pk3.

I have played the Soul Reaver series and think this sword is awesome and looks like the original. The sounds aren’t to bad but some original sounds would be much better.

Korax Mod is 2 years old - KMOD 2.5 released3:49 by Col.J.P.

This just came in from the Korax' Heritage team:

Korax Mod, the 3D accelerated RPG mod for Hexen, celebrates its second birthday. For this occasion, we released a new version of the project, including among other things an all-new feature, the Damage Skin which activates once the monster loses half its HP. Depending on the monster, it can mean things like bleeding chest, broken horn, torn wing etc.

Already present features include an RPG-style skills and level system, greater differences between gameplay of different classes, new spells and abilities for every class, new weapons, collecting loot from dead corpses and spending the cash in shops on new gear, complete 3D acceleration and MD2 model support (a number of models are included in the distribution). This standalone mod needs nothing but your original Hexen wadfile to run.

Chopper's Colossal Arena0:50 by Col.J.P.

Mr. Chopper brings us the first version of his map entitled Chopper's Colossal Arena. The arena has a few areas for dueling and skyboxes to few them from. There is a room with some catwalks with a sniper gun and if you fall to the ground it’s to your death (dunno why the floor is a plain texture but its instant death). The main dueling area in this map can be enclosed by glass and operated by another person in the control room. There is a bacta dispenser for all of you Jedi Plus and Jedi Academy users.

This map doesn't support a lot of players, I suggested clans holding trials download this. I was going to dig into this map and go off but since it’s only the first version and I hope to see some major changesI cut it some slack. I suggest some new textures a few more pick-ups and a lighting change in the elevators.

Pyramid for Elite Force0:21 by Col.J.P.

A nice map, it has a pretty new idea that's very cool and good for 1 vs 1's and duels, also the map has some "interesting twists" but however it does has some bugs like the skybox it can be "touched" when you have the flight and you try to hit the background...

The basic structure of this map is based on DM_Pyramid from Unreal Tournament. So, if it looks familiar, that's why! And just like in the original UT map, the center is anti-gravity - have fun!

Gaming University Q&A: Kenn Hoekstra3:12 by Col.J.P.

Raven Software's Kenn Hoekstra hands out advice to prospective gaming industry job seekers in this new Q&A session:

"Q: I have eight years of experience as a technical consultant for a large software firm. Over this time I have been involved in large projects as a technical developer, team manager, and project manager all within the business sector. But I am finding it very difficult at the moment to break into the games industry as this experience seems to count for nothing with most companies in the biz. I keep seeing articles on gaming sites saying that the games industry needs to learn from the business world by formalizing some of its development methods and processes, but as soon as people like myself apply for jobs as assistant producers or project managers we are usually asked, "How many years experience do you have within the games industry?" What can I do to improve my chances of getting into a company? -- Tad Swift

A: This is a tough spot to be in, admittedly. The fear of bringing in managers from the real world to work on games is somewhat of a touchy situation; until you've worked on a game, it's hard to know what principles of game development are different than business principles applied in the "real world." There's also the bias of "this guy's never shipped a game and I've shipped three, so why the hell should I listen to him?" So … that said, how does one get around the bias? Here are a few thoughts:

A) Learn everything you can about the industry and how it works. Study all of the game developer oriented websites (like Gamasutra) and start reading books on how the industry works. Might I suggest Designing 3D Games That Sell, by Luke Ahern and Game Development and Production by Erik Bethke. Parlay this knowledge into your interviews to show that you are aware of the differences between game companies and companies that produce other products.

B) Look for associate producer and/or producer jobs working for game PUBLISHERS like Activision, EA, Take Two, THQ, or Microsoft rather than at game development houses. Developers are, generally speaking, not going to hire project managers or internal producers that don't have shipped titles or industry experience. Developers tend to promote from within, whereas publishers look for broader range of experience in real-world project management and management in general.

C) Brush up on your interviewing skills. Don't go in with the attitude of, "I'm going to change your company to work like the real-world companies do." You need to convey to the company that you want to come in and do everything that's asked of you and get the job done without stifling creativity, without being a bottleneck, and without being an expert on how things are done. You want to be able to trust your people, learn from them, defer to them when necessary, and help them get the things they need to do the best job they can.

You're not facing an easy situation, I admit, but you can do it."

Kenn Hoekstra joined Raven Software in 1997. He holds degrees in English and History from the University of Wisconsin and currently serves as project administrator and director of support services for Raven. His projects include: Heretic II, Soldier of Fortune, Elite Force, Jedi Knight II, and a slew of other topnotch games.

Force Mod II7:25 by Tito

I LOOOOOVE this MOD... In my opinion, this mod was made to show that there is a god... His name is Azymn! Allright, i'll turn this over to AmosMagee for the talking:

To begin, let me explain to you all that I'm not a fan of mods that change the game too much. Which is why the only mods I ever used were Vulcanus and Jedi Academy on my servers. With that said, on with the review of ForceMod II - The Mercs Strike Back.

For those who liked the first ForceMod, I think you guys are going to love this one. Between the grappling hook, jetpack, flame gauntlet, cloaking for Mercs (like Mindtrick), Optic Radar (like Seeing), dual pistols (!!!) and dozens of other features, this mod has something for everyone. So much, in fact, that I can't list everything here. But that's what the readme is for!

I should also note that this has to be one of the most user-friendly mods I've seen yet. Every setting has been worked into the menus and makes it pretty much idiot-proof. Force powers are combinable now, so you can have Light and Dark force powers and there are 4 levels of Force. There are 4 classes for Jedi and 5 classes for Merc. Model scaling has been included and many emotes and admin commands.

I can see this quickly turning into many players' favorite mod. Good work Azymn and all the others who put so much work into making this incredible mod!"

Sun Security for JK26:46 by Tito

Stating my backness (yes, i am fully able to make up words, i am TITO), i bring you this map for JK2, made by Chris 'IMP.CAES' Reed! I'll leave the most to ViperEye and Ultima for the rest of the talking:

"You know, I haven’t reviewed many maps so far here at JK2Files.com. As records show, I've completed a grand total of just eight file reviews, and already, I've started to believe the demigods of my trade have cursed me. How long would it take before I found a file that blew me away? How many files would I review before I hit the pot of gold, the fabled "Map of the Ages" that I so desperately desired?

Admittedly, I expected to wait a lot longer. Thank goodness I found this awesome piece of work.

Sun Security is, reputedly, a remake of a very specific scene from the now-famous movie, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I admit, I have absolutely no idea whether it's faithful to the film -- I've never been a fan of movies I have to read along with to understand. As a result, I can't tell you how true it is to its filmstock relative. I CAN tell you just how awesome it is anyways, perfect remake or not.

The layout of the arena is actually quite simple: the primary dueling area is a wide-open courtyard paved with individually modeled tiles (many of which are breakable, allowing for some visually intriguing, but unobtrusive and non-distracting interactivity). Off of the central courtyard extend two passageways, both wide, one much longer than the other, giving the overall footprint of the map the outline of a slightly disproportioned cross. Above the main courtyard is a second level, replete with circumnavigating hallway and safety banister, which, while safely out of the way, is accessible easily enough with a skillful jump on up. The upper hallway can provide from some tightly packed dueling scenarios, or, in smaller FFA servers, a nifty observation area for the fighting below. All in all, the layout is quite simple, and quite generic, and it detracts nothing from the fun of the experience in any way, shape, or form. It isn't an amazing layout, but the map's beauty isn't in the layout, it's in the details.

Admittedly, the amount of detail in this map can't rival a UT2K3 creation; it isn't obscenely modeled, even for a level made in the Q3 engine. Nevertheless, one is drawn right into the atmosphere of the arena. Wooden panels swath the walls in deep, rich brown, while supported by individually modeled crossbeams that, when viewed as a whole, actually feel as though they can provide support for the architecture all around you. Subtle evening lighting is provided from the atrium's open-air skylight high above, and a few shuttered windows leak homely yellow tones through carved latticework. Racks of iron-tipped spears line the walls, intermingled with distinctly Asian chairs, tables, stools, and benches, and the floor itself is very subtly three-dimensional: individual tiles pop up out of the ground, and yet are neatly packed and arranged in bas relief frames. The FPS suffers, not at all -- I experienced framerates as good as I ever get, and since the map is of the Duel variety, you never have to worry about your system getting bogged down in the details of character models.

Now, as much as I love the feel of this level, I can't help but notice the negatives as well as the positives. After the beautiful detail of the rest of the map, the flat, single-textured rooftops leave a whole lot to be desired. Lighting, while enough for night gaming, is still very, very low, and you may have a hard time seeing your surroundings with the ambient glare of daytime lighting through your home or office window. I would have loved to see some sort of lanterns lining the walls, perhaps solely along the upper level walkway -- the visual composition of a ring of warm, red light surrounding the cold sheens of the evening on the tiled courtyard below would provide for a striking scene. Of course, I have no idea whether this would conflict with the whole concept of staying true to the movie, so I'm probably suggesting something that would ruin the authenticity of the map. If I am, you all have my permission to shoot me.

The Bottom Line: I wish against wish that the servers I played on were duel servers, because I'd love to experience this level online. As it is, I can't stand the waiting between turns... perhaps someone will add it as an FFA map that folks can have a tournament in. As far as dueling goes, you can't get much better visually than this. And as far as duelplay; well, that's really up to you to get right."

Bot Support: YES
New Music: YES
New Textures: YES
Game Types: DUEL

- Dan "ViperEye" Tennant

"This duel map was modelled off of the room in Sun Security where Shu Lien and Xiao Long fight. It's pretty simple, large open space to fight, with an open ceiling, fairly dark, and some chairs and tables along with a poster on one wall. The breakable floor tiles add a nice touch to combat on this map.

This is a nice map, though a tad dark in my opinion, but that's just me. The music and texturing, along with the symbol on the poster, capture the air of a good Chinese enviroment to fight in. A nice, relaxed duel map, one that I'd consider downloading and using."

Bot Support: yes

All in all: It's a great map! Catch me on a server, cuz i'll be playing this for Duels!

Kappa Station (2.0) for Elite Force0:36 by Col.J.P.

The 'U' shape of the map is unique to EF, and brings about some interesting gameplay. Some changes include making the base structures on level less, while giving varying heights to the rest of the map. The lighting in this version is a lot more evident and has a better aesthetic appeal than the previous version. Weapons and pickups have been left along the sides of the map, though they have been switched around. The grenade and scavenger are right next to the middle wall which gives you a chance to throw projectiles across. The photons are tucked away to the sides of the map (though it's ammo can be found around the map). There are a number of sniper spots, within the bases and in the neutral area.

Don't let the "voy-remake" label fool you, this is worth a check out!
It features bot support and new textures. You can find it at Elite Force Files.

Land Of Damned0:26 by Col.J.P.

Here's a nice map made by *GSG*Snoopy. Its somewhat of a conversion map,the original map appeared in Serious Sam 2. This is what he had to say about his latest creation:

"A very scary landscape with many doomed and dark place and houses. The central point of the map is a tower on a rock. the only way up there is a secret teleporter. keep watching to find it ! On the one hand round the hill, there is a forest, on the other hand u can find three villages in which u can get in through big gates or through holes in the walls or climb over some ladders. there is a cemetery with some pictures of burried members of the *GSG* clan! The map is modelled on the game SS2 (Serious Sam 2). It's not a copy, it's similar and adapted.
Search for the trigger to toll the churchbells of the belfry (it's the original SS2 sound). hint: it takes 5 minutes to reactivate them again."

Includes new textures, new sounds and new music, take a look at SoF II Files.

Goldrush (update 1.2 to 1.3) for SoF II0:20 by Col.J.P.

The Goldrush team brings you the 1.3 patch which has to be installed over a correctly installed Goldrush 1.2 !
This update fixes some bugs and adds some new stuff:

*New gametype: Classic Team Deathmatch (each team has their own base)
-For now, pickups have been disabled otherwise there won't be too much maps ready to play CTDM
-CTDM works with all maps that support ELIM (including Finca and Barn)
*Added a new cvar: g_allowFreeTeamSkins (0=off/1=on) [default = 0]
-This allows players to play in all MP skins available on the server in teamgames (same skins as in DM)
-This has pros and cons, so use it wisely!
*Added a new cvar: g_forceBotsReady (0=off/1=on) [default = 0]
-When set to 1: bots are allways READY at the end of a map (next map starts after apx 10 seconds)
-When set to 0: bots are only READY at the end of a map when there are NO human players (that is including the spectators!!) on the server
*New hud for SABO (made by Sene, our new graphical artist)
*Small improvements of the bots (including "ping 1" and they are "ready" after a map ends) -> Please check warning below!
*Bots only get kicked beween mapchanges when bot_minplayers is used.
-This allows a server to run with a fixed set of bots (as they wont get kicked when bot_minplayers isn't used)
*The old mods-menu is now "tools" menu... in here you find both the old mods-menu AND a new demo-menu (which allows you to play recorded demo's)
*Headshots are now shown in the console
*Fixed a bug in g_heavyItems (caused backpacks not to give armor)
*Number of "votes needed" is better calculated when spectatorvote is ON
*Fixed a bug in "/health" when in ghost-mode
*75 unique bot-names now
*Improved waypoint files for mp_air1, mp_kam4 and mp_hk2 (mp_air1 was a huuuuuuge pain)
*Added a clock to show the local time on your screen (cg_drawClock 0=off, 1=12h, 2=24h clock)
-Code partly used from the Man Down code (written by SlowJusko)

Kowloon Mission Pack Updated0:15 by Col.J.P.

The Kowloon Mission Pack SP mod for Soldier of Fortune II has been updated so that no extra special instructions are needed to play the 3-map set of Single Player action goodness.
Just download the Kowloon Mission Pack, and follow the instructions in the Readme.
If you passed this over the first time because of the extra instructions, or because you "only play multiplayer", I highly suggest you download it and give it a try. It's very clear that a lot of work went into making the maps a pleasure to blast your way through.

RS^Subway for Soldier of Fortune0:08 by Col.J.P.

This is a very nice CTF map from ZeD its a medium sized map made up in the theme of a subway, there are plenty of details and even more objects to break, many hours of fun.
There are secrets to, if you can find them? there are also many hallways for you to get lost in. This map will host 8+players, a good all round map:

Take a look at SoF Files.

Ice Station0:07 by Col.J.P.

Another VOY-based map for your Elite Force collection. A bit unoriginal, but VOY-based maps are great for CTF in my humble opinion. A Capture The Flag map where you must reach the far end of the opposing teams base before you can reach their flag, giving the station an H style design.

Ice Station is a map by {SFEF}Autonox and can be found at Elite Force Files.

Final Encounter0:01 by Col.J.P.

Darth NormaN brings us a duel map entitled Final Encounter. Final Encounter has two somewhat large in size duel areas, and both duel areas have plenty of room around the fighting areas for spectators to watch. This is a plain and simple duel map that needs a little music to complete it.

This is a great duel map for clans to hold trials or duel tournaments.
