Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Academy

Knights of the Force 2.0 Part 1 Final Version released!

March 20, at 00:43
Knights of the Force 2.0 is a Jedi Academy Modification, which the development took place between 2003 and 2008. Previous 1.0 version was developed and released for Jedi Outcast in 2002. Knights of the Force (KotF) is an expansion pack which recreates Jedi Academy with levels, characters, environments, weapons and vehicles from the 6 movies, cartoons and comics. It is also a detailed Star Wars encyclopedia.

KotF includes 100 new Star Wars characters, 150 skins, 70 lightsabers, 40 vehicles, 50 new stages, 130 NPCs, around 40 new and upgraded menus, 70 multiplayer maps and extraordinary CD menu. All these new features are in 2 GB and KotF requires 3.5 GB space on your hard disk.

These maps and models have been remodeled with movie standards to look more realistic and move visual for KotF. All maps are bot supported. In addition, the best 30 Jedi Outcast maps (mostly Star Wars movie maps) have been converted and upgraded for Jedi Academy.

KotF is being developed in 6 languages, which are; Turkish, English, German, Spanish, French and Portuguese. KotF also includes more than 50 in-game video and cinematics and around 30 new pieces of music. To give the players full access on these maps and stages, KotF has a new menu interface. Some of these are; KotF Add/Load Menu System , KotF Player Menu System and KotF CD Menu. Apart from all these KotF has lots of new and improved functions and options. KotF runs independently from Jedi Academy and its mod files, which means KotF has its own base and mod files. This enables the player to play the mod safely apart from the other modifications that had been previously installed.

KotF is full of new functions and options that will let the player finish Jedi Academy Singleplayer over and over again. Although Jedi Academy is a fine game, developers didn't give the players the game's full potential (probably for marketing or strategic reasons). The game has lots of functions and codes that hasn't been activated or completed and can not be seen by players in the normal gameplay. KotF uses this potential to the maximum and makes the game more realistic and a more enjoyable Star Wars adventure by activating and improving these functions and options after 4 years of hard work!

With all this new stuff you got to try this mod for Jedi Academy! You can pay them a visit here and download the mod here ! Its heavy, almost 1.3 gigs, but it is well worth the effort!

Station 19

October 31, at 06:54
I think one of the first maps I ever downloaded was by TK409er, and let me say they only get better over time. I love this map! It's so unique. It's rare to get an underwater map; I can only remember ever seeing a few. And since this map was made for a mapping contest it's extra-special good.

It seems to be like this "Station 19" is a mining station. When I first spawned in I couldn't figure out what this annoying noise was. After exploring a bit (and since it's a duel map, there's not a whole lot to explore) I discovered the source of the sound: a rather large (and functional!) drilling apparatus. I was quite impressed with the drill bits, considering they were made with brushes, and the animated functional bit really adds a new dimension to the map. The only beef I have with the map is how bright the water is, although if he had made it look proper, you'd be fighting in the dark, which is probably just as bad. The very bright cyan rather grew on me as I tested it.

Despite the fact that this is a duel map, it does contain botrouting, which is rather nice. It also features new textures (such as the underwater skybox) and some very nice background music. One of the best bits about this map is going around and checking out all the added detail (the extra drill bits, the various panels and parts, the extra drilling equipment, etc), and the glass walls and rounded viewports really give it an underwater feel. All it's missing is some fish.

Temple of the Elders

October 31, at 06:52
I love a good map, whether big or small. Sometimes my staff even leaves me one to review! This is one of those maps, and trust me ladies and gentlemen you don't want to miss out on this one. It's a Darth NormaN map, after all, and since it was once again made for a mapping contest it is of the highest quality.

This map comes backed with everything it should: bot routes, new textures, new shaders, and lots and lots of dynamic glow and environment effects. As a result this map may play a little choppy for some, especially if you have dynamic glow on. My laptop has not chugged on a map as of yet, until this one. I was running at about 10 fps outside with dynamic glow on. With glow off it's significantly better, but doesn't look as pretty! Which makes me sad, because I like pretty. However players with a decent rig should be fine with this map.

The map itself is a temple, of the ancient variety. Overgrown, a little caved in, and somewhat forgotten, this temple provides the perfect atmosphere for an intense duel, or a no holds barred free-for-all. It has full bot routing, for those hectic bot matches everyone loves, and while relatively small compared to many free-for-all maps, it's plenty large with no worries of getting lost. The foggy and rainy atmosphere adds to the mood of the map, giving it the perfect setting. The music also enhances the mood. It's definitely worth a look, if not an immediate download. A nice break from all the industrial-looking maps!

CTF Tribute

October 31, at 06:45
Its not that often that we get CTF maps in here really. FFA is probably the main gametype used for maps, so maybe that’s why. I always enjoy reviewing CTF maps though, as I used to play a lot of CTF in JK2! So I’m always glad when I get to review a new CTF map

Personally I quite enjoyed this map, overall I think that the gameplay, and the flow of the map was very good, you could certainly have some frantic battles here. Features like the breakable glass added to the fun of the map, after all, who doesn’t like to shoot at a window with their blaster and see the glass shatter? As for the weapon placement, which is very important in a CTF map, I must say that it is pretty well balanced. There weren’t too many weapons too close together, they were all well spread out, and they were in strategic places too. For instance trip mines and rocket launchers on a ledge overlooking a narrow pathway between the two bases.

Now, onto the architecture and lighting. All in all I think the construction and architecture of the map was pretty cool, there were quite a few nice features, like the pillars rising out of a bottomless pit in the flag base area. The shapes were very unusual but I really liked them. I also liked how they were textured, white overall, but with black in the areas that were cut out of the pillar. The black and white textures used (they are the same texture, one coloured white, and one coloured black) go together quite nicely I think.

However I feel that in some areas they were used a bit too often, and some parts looked a little flat. Overall though, I liked the way the black and white textures were used, because they made the map look quite ‘space-age’. The other textures used went with the black and white ones pretty well too I think.

As for the lighting, that also was pretty good, however in one or two areas it seemed a bit harsh. Overall though, not bad!

I think this is a pretty cool CTF map, it looks cool, and has good playability too. Probably my favourite area, is where there are two bottomless pits, with a narrow passage inbetween them that connects the blue base to the red base. Out of the pits rise two pillars with weapons on top, and overlooking the passage are ledges where there are rocket launchers and trip mines. That place would be great for some really intense battles!

One thing the map could have done with is some music though! It’s a bit too quiet. :/

But all in all a nice CTF map here, give it a download if you like the look of it!

NeoTokyo

March 11, at 20:24
Having never played the game that this map is based of, I can’t really comment on its accuracy, what I can say though is that it looks, and feels brilliant to play! The textures are all very high quality, and are well used, there weren’t any that repeated too much, or looked out of place. One texture I especially liked was the road texture, putting a shiny env map on it was very clever, seeing as its raining in the map, it looks like the road is wet, very clever As for the construction of the map, just like Szico’s previous maps its very high quality, and there were no bugs that I could see

The architecture was very good, lots of nice little details scattered around. It really looks like somewhere you might find in a Tokyo type city. Some of the nice little details that I like were the signs scattered around which really added to the feel of the map, and also the little splashes the raindrops made when they hit the ground. A very nice touch that also added a lot to the feel and ambience of the map.

The music also fitted very well, and along with the rain and other effects, it added a great ambience to the map.

One other thing that really added to the map was the skybox. It’s usually pretty much hidden by all the buildings in the map, but if you look from certain angles (or you could just take a look at the skybox textures inside the .pk3) you can see all the lit up buildings on the skybox! I thought that was really cool

One area I especially liked was the arcade of shops that you could walk through, ok, perhaps the window displays are a bit bare (every other shop seems to sell weapons! ) but they still look cool Another area that I really liked was the sewers, I had great fun trying to find my way though there (maybe add some killer rats next time Szico…hehe).

Yet another thing that I liked, was the tram that periodically flies over one of the streets, I think that looked great, it’s just a shame you cant get in it!

I really think this is a great map from Szico, probably my personal favourite actually.

As for bugs or anything else wrong with the map, I really couldn’t see any, so well done to the author there! The only think I can really think of to do to this map, would be to maybe make it a bit bigger, or make it so that you could go inside some of the buildings.

All in all another well made map from Szico here, if you are a fan of Time Splitters, have been waiting eagerly for this map, or just like the look of it, why not give it a download!

BlueIce Twilight

March 11, at 03:52
Well well, here we have a new map from Szico.

First of all before I do anything else, let me comment on the size of this thing. Now I know I often start off reviews by commenting on the size, saying how large the map is. But this map really is MASSIVE. I cant believe how much stuff Szico has put into this map. You could explore it all day and still not find everything!

This is a very snowy map, which I suppose is apt for this time of year, as December is usually known for its snow! Unless of course you live somewhere where it doesn’t snow… In the part of the UK that I live in, we rarely get proper snow. Its usually either mush that falls here, or when we do get snow its only a thin layer that melts anyway after a couple of hours unless its cold enough lol!

Anywayyy…it looks like there’s been plenty of snow falling in this map as its absolutely covered in it! I must also say that the choice of base JKA skybox used is very clever. It might only be the night-time one that’s used on the Korriban Multiplayer FFA map, but it fits very nicely with the snow!

There are just too many cool (forgive the pun) features in this map to list. So I will try and only comment on the best ones

Firstly the area where I spawned was a frozen pond type thing. The texture and shiny shader used looked very effective, and being a frozen pond, its really slippery too, so watch your step! However, there’s something far cooler (forgive the pun again!) that just a frozen pond there. There are fireflies, tons of them! The author has really done a good job making this new effect, it really does look like fireflies are hovering around the pond, and it looks very scenic The choice of music for the map is also excellent and adds to the scenic atmosphere.

The main area to the map is sorta like a little village. There are many small cottages scattered around, a few of them you can even go in. There’s a nice warm fire inside, some furniture, and even a sleeping bag type thing The way the doors of the cottages have been scripted to swing open is more like real life and looks very good, afterall how many cottage doors do you see that just slide away into the wall like the doors we are so used to seeing in Starwars maps?
Around the back of some of the cottages is a TaunTaun pen, this is a BIG map remember, so TaunTaun’s are useful for getting around quickly!

Another thing I like in this map is the Snow covered Fir trees, they fit very well with the map, and there is a nice little area where there is a camp fire surrounded by a few trees. Again very scenic. Lets not forget the Ski Lift and Ski Slope too! Its fun sliding down there…weeeee! *crack!* *crunch!*

Owwww…

Anywayyy, that’s just the main area, after that there is another area to get to. You get to this via a frozen sewer or river type thing. At first when I saw it, it was covered with ice, and I didn’t think anything of it. Then I jumped on it and *CRACK!* the ice broke and I fell into the water! That was a very cool idea, breakable ice Anyway, once I swam my way through the sewer/river I came out at this shaft where I had to jump up in order to upon this hatch above me. Once out I worked my way out onto this snowy canyon road…with errmmm…an X-Wing at the side? That seemed a bit out of place for the setting of the map!

Go through what looks like a boarded-up shaft, wind your way through the corridors and eventually you will find yourself back at the main area! Phew.

Errm but that’s not it…there are loads of secrets and other places you can go in this map, including what I believe is a Final Fantasy themed duel room, control rooms, even deep underground through something that looks like a mine shaft!
Now, I couldn’t tell you where all the secrets are of course, as well as making the review insanely long, that would spoil the fun

I will give you some clues as to where to find one of the secret areas though Look around for some padlocked hatches, you can break the padlocks and then press the use button to open the hatches…I’m not going to tell you anymore though, that would spoil the fun now wouldn’t it? Mwahaha!
One other great thing was the teleporters around the map, they look incredible when they are turned on. Now it’s a bit complicated to turn them on, basically look for round buttons that you can press to turn them on (I had trouble finding them though, but then again I’m not good at finding things!) Also look for a hidden teleporter behind a brick wall somewhere. It’s a bit difficult to find, but I’m sure you will find where it is

Now, onto the things that could have been improved upon. Well the map is extremely high quality, and there was very little here that I thought could be improved upon. However there were still one or two things. One thing was that the boulders scattered around certain places in the map were very jaggedy, it would have looked cool if they were a bit more rounded off. But it still looks ok really

And of course, as with any map this size, the FPS in places did drop quite a bit for me. But overall I’m very glad to say that the FPS was very good

Besides that an absolutely excellent map here! Well done Szico!

Oh and by the way, Szico informs me that all the source files for this map are included in the .zip, I’m certainly going to enjoy looking through those, and I’m sure you will too

Jedi Fort Map

November 27, at 22:16
Well here we have a medium sized FFA map by the name of Jedi Fort. I remember when I used to play around with mapping, just doing it for fun on JK2 Single Player, one of the early maps I created was a castle type thing. This really reminded me of that because it’s kinda similar. It has walls all the way round and a big courtyard, with the Keep (the main Castle tower) in the middle. And there’s also some other buildings scattered around the courtyard.

However, my map had a big forest around it, whereas this map is set in the desert This map also has a small (but EXTREMELY deep) moat around the Keep.

For something that is the author’s first map, this isn’t bad at all mate! The idea of a castle map is pretty cool, and for your first map you haven’t done too badly. I would really like to see you expand and improve upon the idea and maybe release a v2

Some of the things you could work on:

One thing I noticed what that there were some swoops in this map, so you could have some cool races around the keep But the swoops have missing textures on! Remember when you use swoops in a multiplayer map, make sure you use the swoop_mp vehicle, otherwise the textures wont work.

There were also one or two missing textures, but that wasn’t too bad.

Also in one of the buildings in the courtyard (the one with all the weapons in) when I climbed the stairs I kept getting stuck at the top, because the ceiling wasn’t high enough to let me go all the way to the top, so I had to crouch. So play around a bit with the dimensions of things, it takes a bit of practice to get all the dimensions right, so the character can get to certain places. I remember when I started off I was terrible at it, and I kept making corridors that you had to crouch in to get through lol! With a bit of practice though I soon learned how to make things just the right size. Practice makes perfect as they say!

Not a bad map here for your first map mate, keep at the mapping!

20th Century Fox (v2.1) Map

November 27, at 22:11
Tech: 5
Quality: 8
FunFactor: 7
Stability: 8
Creativity: 9

Overall Rating: 7.4

Description:
Well, everyone knows what the 20th century fox logo is, and I assume you can all see the screenshots, so there's not much to really say about this map, aside from give you my list of improvements.

Okay, so the map is reasonably accurate to the actual logo, however there's a few thing's I'd like to see set straight. Firstly, the lights need to be swinging, as they do in the logo opening - and incidentally you need an actual source for the lights too - i can see the mechanism for them but there's no actual 'bulb' section in them. Secondly.... you need a specular shader! The 20th century fox emblem is GOLD... not yellow Make it shine!

I realise the intro sound in the actual movie is too short for a map, but it would've been nice to hear it somewhere in the map.. but never mind. We actually get the main theme from star wars, which, fits reasonably well. The author has also tried to implement a custom water shader... which doesn't quite work well, but it's better than the default water shaders Oh, and there's some small misalignment problems on the lettering, but you won't notice it

MB II Map Sniper Labs Operative

October 02, at 19:52
Finally it is out! MB II Space Map with Vehicles!

Sniper Labs Operative

Well after some work of around 5 months where in average you could say 1 hour of work, I finally finished my first MB II Map. This is an unofficial map but it is still awesome. First, this will be even though unofficial, the first MB map with absolute need to use vehicles in order to win. The map itself takes place in Space where the evil Imperials have stolen secret information from the rebels and are about to send it to the Imperials. But well the rebellion will not just sit and wait for the information to be sent and their future doomed, no! They have planned an emergency mission to rescue or destroy this information before it reached the hands of the empire!

The map starts when the rebels get on their ships and go attack the Imperial space station: Sniper Laboratories containing the data stolen from the rebels. BUT they must do it quickly before the Empire sends the data to the Emperor! Of course the Imperials knowing of the attack coming they have made the data first priority and locked down the station making it harder for the poor rebels to access and destroy their target which is the ENERGY GENERATOR for the Communication Array. If this information gets to the hands of the Emperor, the rebellion will be crushed.

The map itself is around 19.3MB because almost all the textures are new! So it is worth downloading I have putted all my effort in this BETA version. But I have left for next version, better and more realistic lightning, better Full Authentic Classes, and new models. Still the main piece of the map is there so start downloading and let the fun begin!

Here is a picture to give you a taste of the map!

And remember the fate of the rebellion lies in your hands.

Sith Council V2

July 04, at 23:06

Good work Kahn, everyone thought your first sith council was awesome, and now you come and blow us away with another one! Personally I think that this map is cool and all the new rooms and buttons are incredible. But I can't help but think, aren't the secret areas too easily accessible (without noclip)?

The secret areas are: a secret bar, the control room, the tomb, and many more! When I first saw this map in servers, I kept asking everyone where to download it. But no one knew until I found it at PCGameMods where everyone should download it!

SJC's map pack PART I

July 04, at 21:09
Description: As always with any Sith-J-Cull map, I will have difficulty finding fault with anything, but I will try my hardest! So, didja see it, huh, did you!? Of course you did. If you're on this site, reading this review, downloading this map pack, then you saw Episode III. If not, don't read my review - there may be a spoiler or two.

Okay, so I spawned in that one big room near the elevators. I immediately crawled down the broken one and explored the shaft. I don't think you can tell from the screenshots there, but there seemed to be water I was walking in here and there. Oh, and these screenshots are a bit out of order. See R2 down there in the water? I didn't mean for him to fall down there... I just love breaking grates. And that damn droid kept saying something every once in a while. Startled me every time and I expected them to spawn and start shooting at me and R2. Of course, R2 would've kicked their asses. As you can see from the last screenshot there, I wouldn't have been much help to R2 since I decided to go and press buttons and got launched out into space. My FPS was decent on The Invisible Hand and I wouldn't be surprised if this map becomes as popular as the Duel of the Fates map - especially with that space-sucker-outer button.

And now Palpatine's Office - no, wait, that's a screenshot of Sith-J-Cull's office - or is it George Lucas'? Bah. Maybe George and James share an office? Well, I have no idea how to legitimately get to this room, I cheated and noclipped. But definitely check it out, it's amusing. The design and lighting of this map are great and accurate, though my poor screenshots don't justify the map. I'm not quite sure why the chairs in the office can be pushed and pulled, but they can be. And the glass OF COURSE can be broken - how else could you reenact the scene where Windu gets - okay, I'll stop there.

After testing these two maps, I'm tempted to go back and find your first map ever submitted, James ... just so I can see if there was ever any improvement to be made. It seems to me you've always been a great mapper and always will be.

By the way, there are two screenshots of James' upcoming work included in the zip file. So be sure to download part 1 of this map pack!

Movie Battles II. B17

July 01, at 18:12
Well just when it looked like the fire of the game Jedi Academy was extinguishing, A simple game mod suddenly grew into an amazing new gameplay form that uses Jedi Academy. What am I talking about? The JKIII: JA Modification called Movie Battles II (MBII) and its version now played B17. This mod, is like a new type of siege where you play in classical maps made by the greatest mappers we have gotten the honor to have for Jedi Academy.

There is three diferent types of games in MBII. These are Full Authentic (FA), Semi Authentic Semi-FA), and Open mode (Open). FA is a siege type of game where depending on the map you are on, for example tantive IV one person can be the player Darth vader, while the rest are stormtroopers. then for rebels, one person is Leia, while another one can be a rebel. In other maps like Geonosis Arena, you can be Mace Windu, or Anakin or padme and so on. Now Semi-FA, you can have 10 Darth vaders if you want and 1 stormttooper or 10 Leias. oe 10 Mace windus. And finally in Open, in any map you can be any character in the game so you can play in Tantive IV an Anakin Skywalker vs a Darth vader in other team :P Cool isn't it. But if that was the whole point of MBII it wouldn't really give it that real feeling. But thats when the MBII makers included a new feature in which you depending on character, usually heroes like Vader and other Jedi or people like Solo, if you die, then you die and have to wait till the 5 minute round ends or the objective of the team is made or a team dies, or time runs out. While troops like a stormy can have 3 lifes yet have less health. and finally another cool feature is that in open mode you get points with kills or winning the match, up to 80 points. now this points can be used to upgrade guns, get thermals, meele skills, more lifes per game, and in Jedi and Sith force powers. Each class in open mode has diferent upgradable skills. Jedi and Sith are oblvious while other classes like Heroes of Movies can use snipers and thermals, clone can upgrade blasters or twin guns. mandalorians can get jetpack fuel and flame thrower and most all a nice shiny rocket

In Conclusion it is a very awesome modification that is worth downloading and there is always more than 9 servers playing it while at least 5 are almost full. Plus you can always go to the OWA server which to my point of view is the best.

Movie Academy

Okay, just about everyone here agrees that Sith-J-Cull is a great mapper. He's also innovative. It's nice to see that people are still coming up with original ideas. This is a map that serves as an FFA map and it's actually pretty decent just like that. I don't like the way the weapons were done here and I feel it should be used as a saber only map, but that's just me. But the heart of this map is downstairs. It's a theater. It has couches and a huge movie theater screen with the curtains and everything. Press the button on the right and the curtains part. Press the button on the left and you can watch the Episode III trailer. Keep an eye out for this map to be updated by James in the near future - for this will be where you'll be able to see the teasers for his next maps. :)Brilliant idea, pretty map set in Coruscant and it's just ... great, James.

Nina: Undiscovered Secret- A new SP mod for Jedi Academy

April 02, at 11:26
There is nothing I love more than a well written and executed single player mod. Except of course for a darn good map. Undiscovered Secret could've been one of those amazing SP mods if it had been completed. I'm not saying that there is no ending - I'm sure there probably is. I just didn't play that far into the game. I enjoyed what I did explore.

The mod has some combat here and there, but more than anything there are little puzzles that you need to solve to complete your objective. It's a tad predictable, but satisfying because it's not too hard. Now my biggest issue with this mod is the dialogue. Not only is it TERRIBLY written (okay, there were a few funny things here and there, but generally it could've been better), but there isn't any voice acting. So make sure you have your subtitles on before playing. This really ruined it for me. I couldn't lose myself in the story. And the text was too fast, at that. Is it still worth a download?

Absolutely. I think you'll enjoy the mod itself. It just would've been nice if they had gone that extra step and gotten some people to record the lines and had someone else go over the dialogue. Great job, anyway, though!
