The Azure Fortress (E3M4)

Before the Disciples have time to react to your presence,
run around the start room, grab the ammo and the Dragon's Claw and jump
into the elevator shaft. Push the button and watch for the mid-station
where the lift won't stop but you can jump off to get a Ring of Invulnerability.
Finish off the gargoyles in the shaft, and enter the
antechamber of the fortress. There's a teleport in the middle, but you
don't want to enter that. Rather dispatch the Ophidians around it and
collect the Quartz Flasks, you should have quite a supply by the time
you enter the door on the opposite side of the chamber.

Jump into the pool at the first occasion, and grab the
Crossbow. Run up the stairs at the far side and jump into the hidden alcove
for some more goodies. After that, time to get rid of all that annoyance
that flies and crawls around.

Enter any of the 2 doors on the east wall. If you have
a torch, light it to counter the blinking effect in the cages which makes
it difficult to aim at the Undead Warriors contained within. Once done,
take the right-hand door to get some goodies and get rid of a possible
crossfire situation.

You can jump right down or go around and through the
left-hand door, you arrive at the same place. Lure your foes under the
crusher to save ammunition. To get the Yellow Key, choose the left-hand
passage. Before you open that door though, you can clear out a potential
threat to your back by going into the hidden room through the green panel
right before the door on the left.

Once you have the key, open the Yellow Door. Get the
Green Key from the throne and start back. Before you reach the door again,
you'll be attacked from your right where a wall disappeared and critters
are charging in swarms. At the end of this new corridor you can see a
Hellstaff, when you grab it a door opens, just charge in and dispose of
the garbage, collecting the Time Bombs in the process. If you exit this
room, across the hall another secret door will open. Run like a bunny
and you'll be in before the door closes again. Jump into the teleport
in there and you'll be able to teleport around and gather goodies from
2 small rooms.

Time to open the Green Door... be prepared for a tough
run, this one is a real gauntlet with heavy Weredragon crossfire, and
at the end you get potshots at a couple of metal heads too (or they at
you). Take the left-hand passage, grab the Phoenix Rod at the end of the
corridor, then run back to the alcove on your right and throw the switch.
Back to where you got the Rod, and a couple of Disciples later you have
the way cleared to the exit to the secret
level.

By the time you get back to the Iron Liches, you'll find
a crowd of playmates there. Activate your Ring of Invulnerability if you
want, and get out some heavy weaponry. You can also check out the other
passage, after crushing a score of Sabreclaws to pulp you get access to
some ammo and goodies.

Go back to the room with the pool. The door to the regular
exit is now open, it's just some critter bashing and you can exit there
too. Before you go however you should enter the teleport in the antechamber
and get back to the start to dispose of the would-be wizards up there
too (it works wonders if you activate your Shadowsphere before entering
the teleport, especially if you have a Morph Ovum or two at hand). Now
it's time to go, either to the next standard map (The
Ophidian Lair) or to the secret map (The
Aquifier).
